Let's say you are the new owner of a mid-level F1 team, and you are allowed to hire any one living person to join your team. Who would you choose?

My choice:

It's sad that unlike the Byrne-Newey race of the 90s-00s, we all accept Newey is the only great designer left and his cars will be dominant at some point in the season.

Right now? Newey. Before? Chapman.

Well as long as it doesn't have to go through the books.

No 1 OP said living person and no 2 Chapman was in an era when he seemed to be happy to experiment to the point that he made drivers non-living.

Hmmm maybe, but I may never forgive him for the MP4-18 and the MP4-19(A)

Newey's cars seem to be fast but fragile.

I'd hire Big Ron because he's smart enough to have hired Barnard, Newey, Hak, Kimi, Lauda, Prost, Hamilton, Alsonso......

I would chose better driver.
So it will be Alonso as of now. The thing with engineers is that you can always find a talented engineer down the line. Or you will get a young engineer that produces great results. But it is much more difficult to find new near perfect drivers.
Good cars can product bad results in hands of average or just good drivers. Average cars can be dragged to produce good results in hands of great drivers. I would want to finish as high as possible in the standings. Mid level teams do not have budgets of top teams. Even hands of Newey will be tied with limited budget. So it is and will always be a driver first for me.

Adrian Newey is the only correct answer.

Thanks Captain Obvious! I know he said living person; that's why I chose Newey. But is it illegal to elaborate and add someone not living?? I guess so. And don't tell me about Chapman, I know all I need to know about him thank you very much.
