Kimi will not get a grid penalty if they change engine on a Friday correct?

I agree, but you can never trust McLaren's reliability.

Don't be silly, this is interalogs and anything can happen, especially with the reliability of the RedBull being a problem.

Scratch that, Red Bull are the quickest on 2012 hard tyres.

Is there something odd with how the team radios sound when the driver speaks? Hamilton sounded like he was crying while speaking, as did Räikkönen. I highly doubt either of them did.

What is Bottas doing? He should be higher than that, and he isn't even on track.
At some point, both Williams were so slow they were probably high on fuel, but Maldonado is somewhat quick now.

Majorly glum looking faces down at HRT. Despite how poor the team has been, you have to feel a bit sorry for the staff.

Yeah the quality seemed pretty bad, probably need to tweak the locations of the receivers around the track.

Is there any driver that doesn't have issues?

Vettel complains about vibrations, Alonso needed a new front wing, Hamilton complains about tyres overheating, Räikkönen has engine problems...

He's doing them now. Alonso is .261 off Button.

What's the deal with that?

It's based on his Dads design when he did touring cars.

Button seems to have been doing them ever since his 5 timed lap or something, why hasn't Lewis done as much?

I think the only worrying thing in all of those is Kimi's engine. Vettel was on a long run, and just letting the pitwall know what was happening with the tires at that point. Alonso might have just been trying a different spec front wing, Hamilton was discussing setup it seemed.

I don't think too much can ve gleaned from that session with only the Red Bulls, and Maldonado of the top ten setting their best times on the 2012 spec tires. The rest of them set their best time on the test tires.

"Thank you McLaren" - nice gesture and makes me wonder if he does indeed regret his decision to leave the team. IMO he should.

All teams broadcast their radio transmissions encrypted so other teams cant hear what is discussed. The FIA can de-encrypt these messeges and this is what is broadcast. Its this encryption and de-encryption that makes them sound odd and warbly.

Massa and Hamilton's helmets are beautiful... Massa's especially. I like the green one he usually uses, but he should definately keep that new one for next year IMO.

Nice gesture from Hamilton with the "Thank you" on the helmet. You can't say he's not doing all he can to keep it amicable between the two :) Good to see.

Honestly I don't think he does regret his decision. I'm not saying this just because I'm a Hamilton fan, but I'm saying this because McLaren have such a bad reliability problem. I feel Singapore this year clinched the contract for Mercedes, as he was leading and controlling the race, but the car let him down, you can also look at Abu Dhabi.

even looking back to 2005 when Kimi and Montoya were at McLaren, you could argue that Kimi could've won the championship that year, but the car let him down.

As we've seen this year Mercedes has made a consistent car which finishes races, although it does eat the tyres, they are changing the structure of the tyre next year so things go only go well for Mercedes.

Mercedes have had as many problems as McLaren this year.

As for the tyres, once again they are going softer. Lewis was on the radio very quickly complaining of the new ones overheating in FP1 and according to Hembrey the compound used was the same as the current hard one. Someone else mentioned the drivers were able to turn them on quicker.

So tyres changing does not mean things can only go well for Merc. If the current hard compound is heating quickly and the compounds are going to be softer, that sounds bad too me from a Merc perspective. .

As for the comments about Regret. i'm surprised no ones mentioned Lewis' comments about McLaren being home and he's only going travelling.

I think Ted mentioned it in his little Thursday preview. It is pretty widely reported - just google it.

But as ant said you ask any of the drivers they would rather a fast fragile car than a slow one that is reliable. And also it's easier to make a car more reliable than it is to make it faster !
