Well the first 2 games didn't take me to long to suss, but this one is a different kettle of fish. After 2 weeks of solid f*cking about at Melbourne I finally figured out how to setup the damn car so I can finally attack with it, I'm now competitive on its hardest setting, yee ha. I set the car up so on the nose that I can now hussle it when it all gets a bit messy rather than understeer off the track. But I now hold the steering wheel so gently and smoothed out my driving style for most do the time.

How has everyone else got on with this?

I have the PC version. An entire different ball game if you have the logitech g25 wheel. I like it, but I find the AI a bit weird on maximum settings. You still get penalties when the CPU cars cut you up. I really have to keep out of there way. I prefer the time trials more and just try fastest laps.

Recently [oftopic] I tried http://www.wmdportal.com/projects/cars/ it's in alpha so not great yet but I enjoy the realism more to the F1 game, it reminds me a lot of Rfactor. I tried it a few weeks ago on a 3 screen simulator, it was ace. Really need to buy my self a proper racing seat.

I play on 360, but I find I understeer quite a lot. I very rarely oversteer. The thing I dislike is not being able to set up the car for the champions mode. I'd do better if I had a car that handled the way I liked it.

I use 1-1 wings just about everywhere. Even in career mode. I'm using the Mercedes in year 3, and at first I had to add wing at the front because of the understeer, but after getting about 4 updates to the car, I was able to run 1-1 at Hockenheim feel comfortable doing it.

Get in the better cars and the same setup will easily get pole and wins at every track on the most difficult settings. Took quite a bit time to set my G27 up for it... tbh the game is really rubbish in managing the wheel on PC.
Still the game is too easy... i'm yet to qualify in a season and i won every race up to Monaco now. But the game is still really funny to play and lasts much longer than i anticipated, worth every penny.

I found it horribly unresponsive with a wheel on pc. Especially when compared to stuff like PCARS (which is still a bit odd to drive), and particularly rFactor.
There's also no real 'feel' to it. You can't feel the back stepping out until it's unsaveable. Small corrections are pretty much impossible because of the amount of wheel deadzone.

Rain affected sessionsa are doing my nut in... I can set up beautifully for dry sessions, but as soon as I see rain, even with a wet set up, I drop off the pace ridiculously, is it just me who can't achieve success in the wet on this game?

Come to think of it I was alright in the wet in the Ferrari/Marussia before my game lost it's data... maybe it's the Williams.

That could be my problem, I have traction control off.

There's definitely differences between X360 and PS3 versions I'm finding.. really subtle differences - finding the back a lot more tail heavy but easier to control throttle on PS3 - though this is probably more of a controller thing (NEED a wheel). The frame-rate is definitely better on X360 though

I'l be honest I didn't like F1 2012 (got the PC version). I loved 2010 and 2011 but they buggered up the handling model for 2012 and turned it into the F1 understeer simulator. A few people liked it and when looking for solutions I was basically told to learn to drive and stop turning the wheel full lock.

Most of my racing gaming is done on proper simulation titles, I've won prize money events and am pretty competitive in online racing so I think I know how to drive and how to adapt, but the game simply felt bad. The Codemasters F1 games are not simulations but a blend inbetween and are typically a lot easier and more casual to play in terms of driving the cars, F1 2012 though wasn't difficult or requiring great skill like the simulations do, it was simply frustrating and annoying.

I spent my whole time asking myself "why is this car understeering so much" and then you would get the canned oversteer effect that comes out of nowhere... Bah safe to say I didn't enjoy it. F1 2011 wasn't realistic but I found it gave a solid and believable, very controllable racing experience, F1 2012 was also not realistic in driving terms but the changes to the driving model also made it not enjoyable, for me.

Then there is the game itself, in 2010 we had this "live the life" Formula 1 paddock theme, which though limited was quite good, but they toned it down in 2011 and it has all but gone in 2012 into what is basically a menu screen driven game.

Anyway, I gave it 6-7hours of playtime before I turned it off and haven't been back since, there are so many great racing games out there, including the 2011/2010 series of F1 games and I just have a hard time convincing myself to give it a try again. I have the MP4-27 Mclaren F1 car in the SimRaceway simulation game, and while the tracklist there is minimal for the moment and the racing is limited, atleast the driving experience is spot on.

I still think we should set up the PF1 F1 2012/11/10 league and have ourselves a little championship :P
