Thats a bit crafty...is that even allowed? Didn't think you could channel exhaust gasses anymore.

so the exhausts are designed into the plateau quite high up but with the shape of the upper face of the plateau and the angle of its rear pretty much focused inwards and down........hmmm

Brawn's been playing with the rule book again. Maybe he'll actually be back on form this year and give Newey a run for his money...

....or maybe I'm being way too optimistic.

note the little winglets in front of the sidepods and I am thinking the winglets on top of the sidepods at the outer edge are to direct airflow to the exhaust outlet

Its growing on me, I'm liking pretty much everything but the platypus nose now... I don't think the nose will ever grow on me when competing with the rest of the field though. There is a broad variety of nose designs this year don't you think?

If you look at the front wing mounts you'd think that their fixed the whole length of the wing, but I think i can see a slot towards the rear of the pylon that looks like their only fixed at the front and the back is loose like McLaren to encourage rotation.

Anyway fitting BlackBerry sponsor the team, mediocrity sponsoring mediocrity.

Actually there are lot of changes on car. Lot more than I thought initially after seeing that crappy picture derived from the reveal page.
Inward bending sidepods at front like Redbull, Side pods like Ferrari and McLaren, exhaust = different application directed inwards, slightly different nose. Different rear end.
The one thing that I dont like is that they have had to give cooling vent opening at back. That will compromise aero a bit at the rear when gill openings are like that.
I wont look too much into car looking fat from above shots. All of the cars will look fat from that angle. Just look at Ferrari pics form top, it looks hideous from top.
For their sake I hope it is more competitive than last 3 years. Hopefully they can challenge at least Lotus.

this is the live launch stream apparently. Pretty low key by the looks (and sounds) of things...

Any news on whether they've hidden the drviesshaft and track rod inside the lower wishbone as the other cars we've seen already have?

It looks like they fixed the cooling problems as well. If you look at 2012 photos, they had a large black heat shield along the back of the sidepod, this year they dont seem to have that. In testing last year there were burnt brown spots on the bodywork.

Remember Schumi started 5th in Texas last year using an earlier version of the Coanda system on this years car. It scorched his tyres during the race but they will have been given so much data that hopefully they can avoid that this time.

the thing is: lotus is looking into challenging at least one of the big 3 ...

don't worry too much - they'll be fine... they won't be challenging for the WCC or WDC but it will be better than last year... even if the exhaust-idea doesn't work out, that's something they can redo before oz (i think they may be mainly blowing the rear break-ducts?) ... frontwing looks a lot like its main duty is directing airflow around the front tires - which should be a good thing as this was the route of RBR & Ferrari last year... combined with the winglets in front and atop the sidepods it looks promising as the car is designed with coanda-effect exhausts in mind... they'll still have to do some catch-up on this topic though...

At first I was a bit worried that their helmets look very similar and it'll be difficult to tell them apart. But it's ok, they've got different colour shoes.

I'm of the opinion that we will have some closing up of the top teams this year; some of Red Bull's advantages have been eroded - because of the changes to the DRS rules and front wing load tests, as well as other teams have been able to incorporate their ideas around the rear of the car.

Added to the fact that they were actually close to being on the pace in the early stages of last season before they discovered the double DRS led them up a development blind-alley and they then obviously switched off developing the W03 to concentrate on this car, I expect them to be closer to the top 4 than in 2012; they will win races. (Oh yes, they've also improved their driver line-up too!)

blackberry are really going all in , usually companys start with small logos in not so exciting places , but they went for the front of the driver overalls , top of the chassis , side of the car .

BlackBerry would have to make a half decent phone first. Given the BlackBerry Ten OS that's just been brought out has been slated by most I doubt that's gonna happen any time soon. The market will be Apple and Samsung dominated for a while yet regardless of this Merc sponsorship deal.

Still one wonders what will break down or crash first, Hamilton's BlackBerry or his car...

I guarantee that he'll have an iPhone or s3 in his pocket for personal use. You'd be crazy to try and use a blackberry as your main phone these days. Nasty, nasty devices.

Skeptical.. :)

I thought BB were financially insecure anyhow - what with them disappearing for a while. So I am surprised to see them strapped across a F1 car.. That being said, it will draw plenty of attention.
I had a BB Bold and never had one issue with it, and whilst the BB Ten OS has been slated, its also been given much praise for being different and radical..

iOS has hardly changed..

I'd use one if I was being paid as much as he is for using one!

He can't risk getting photographed using a rival phone.

To be fair he'll have to use a different phone, any phone Merc give him will probably have twitter and instagram disabled or something.
