I'm expecting Sainz to be a little bit slower, but not much. I've gone for 0.1-0.3s slower. You either believe both Verstappen and Sainz are very good qualifiers, or you believe neither is special - and I take the second view myself. We'll see if I keep it after next weekend :-P

This all depends on their mental states of mind. Who is most ready to focus on the job ahead?
From the outside I would say Kvyat must feel more deflated than Sainz right now. I would give Kvyat a couple of weeks to regain his composure. Sainz wins this consolation battle for now.

I think Sainz will be... Less than 0.1 seconds slower. I don't doubt that kvyat is the better driver of the two, but he is moving to a car with both less downforce and more power, that's not an easy mix to get right straight away.

I reckon Sainz will be 0.1 - 0.3 seconds quicker initially. Between the mental impact of the demotion and having to get used to a weaker car (at least in terms of aero) I can see Kvyat struggling a little initially before ultimately getting ahead of Sainz.

But as I have said elsewhere, being faster for one lap will not win you a race.

Indeed, but stepping in and being faster on literally on day 2 of being in the car bodes very well for the future 1 lap shoot outs and races.

I think Sainz will be quicker at least in the first race or the first two races because Kvyat needs to adapt to the new car.

But lets not forget that Kvyat is still a very quick driver and I think he has been unfairly demoted to TR.

I got both correct as did the forum (highest score for both RB and TR was correct)!

We know F1 quite well- going from Q2 knockout times.

Yeah, I think Kvyat has a harder job to impress than Max. KVyat is stepping into a worse car than he is used to and his ego would be bruised. If he tried to corner as hard as he could in the Red Bull he would slide and lose time.

MAx on the other hand is now in a better car and has just been given a promotion so his confidence would be sky high.

I would argue the forum was wrong about Toro Rosso; the actual gap was greater than 0.3 and less than 0.4, which using the options here would imply to me that it was in the 0.3-0.5 range, not the 0.1-0.3 range.

Although granted, the forum at large was still a lot closer than I was! x(

Today Sainz finished what, 32 seconds ahead of Kvyat? That was a proper tonking, in both qualifying and the race. All this while Verstappen basically matched Ricciardo's pace on his first outing for Red Bull.

People underestimated just how good the 2015 STR duo really were. I think they are both exceptionally talented. Obviously they were never tested against anyone but each other, which made them difficult to judge.

I think that Sainz would have a lot more hype around him if he wasn't in Verstappen's shadow. It's easy to overlook that he is only 21 years old and already very fast.

We will see how this ends up. For the first race we have a proper beating from Sainz to Kvyat.
