Ok. New track with question marks over safety so including the VSC, how many safety car periods will there be?

I say just one - the others will be red flag periods! ;)

Including VSC? Got to be at least four.

I think 2-3 SC (virtual or not) and one red flag.

After all this speculation, watch it connive to be a completely trouble-free race!
I'm going for three.

I reckon about 4 (1 or which is VSC) and a red flag (that will ultimately end the race a few laps early)

I think 3 including red flags, two of them will be on the run up to the castle and the other will be a complete surprise and make no sense

Turn 8 or turns 18, 19 or 20 are the most possible areas of the track where the incidents will happen.
18,19 & 20 I hope they marshal well as they are high speed corners with no run off areas.

Most likely will be 2, and the first one will be just after the first lap.

The poll says 'including VSC', so you should have voted 3. I compensated and voted 4.

I hope there will be none.

After seeing the GP2 race I really hope they get less safety car in the F1 race. What a mess.

With such a long pit straight, Safety Car restarts could be chaos. The last corner is too far from the Safety Car line so the lead driver will have to 'restart' the race halfway down the straight. There's a massive opportunity there to gain or lose a lot of positions.

Anyone else miss the proper safety cars? I respect that the introduction of the virtual safety car increases safety but I'd like if a VSC period would always be followed by the actual safety car being brought on the track.

I really don't. The delay to restarting was almost always far too long, especially when they had to let all the back markers un-lap themselves. The virtual safety car seems so much more efficient and fair.

No. I have never understood the need to count down laps when there's no racing. I have also never understood how a driver's work was allowed to be thrown away, in search of cheap excitement.

If there's a dangerous situation on the track, stop the race and remove the danger.

I voted 3 - clearly there will be issues - even top drivers are having problems - the issue will be whether they hit the wall or just go down escape roads - (with yellows for the sector) - amazed if less than 2 SC to be honest - could play havoc with strategy - so a bit of a lottery perhaps - or we are all wrong and nothing much happens lol

Maybe it depends on which driver benefits?

It's more fair to use the VSC.
At Bacu, they seem to not be geared to clear the track easily, so we may see several actual safety cars on track. That is Hamilton's best chance of a win. The Mercedes cars should easily dominate this race, and with a safety car or two at the right time/s, it could take an easy win away from Rosberg and make it a battle between the Mercedes cars.

As much as 2016 qualifying times have been making headlines for being as fast as the V8 or even V10 eras, this is really due to the throwaway Q3 qualifying tyres meaning it's the first time in many years that there's no aspect of either tyre saving or fuel saving in qualy. Once they get to the race they're still incredibly slow compared to previous years, and that shows out in the complete lack of errors on race day compared to so many offs on Saturday. The drivers are nowhere near the limit on Sundays under the current formula.

I've never seen such a difference between practice and a race. I'd predicted 3 based upon the 3 practice sessions and qualy. Guess I got this totally wrong! GP2 was a total farce though..

F1 teams and drivers have gone into "cautious and conservative mode" no doubt, after what happened in GP2

heh I'm famous now :P

Honestly on dangerous tracks, the drivers are always more cautions. Like in real life, when conditions on roads are terrible, there are less deaths. I kinda applied that logic here.

So long as you have the fuel flow restrictions the cars and PU's will never be stressed to their max potential.
