Current Table

3 Daniel Ricciardo Red Bull 133
4 Kimi Raikkonen Ferrari 122

Who do you think is going to finish 3rd in this year's WDC?

My prediction of how the battle for 3rd place ends up.

4. Daniel Ricciardo
5. Kimi Raikkonen
6. Sebastian Vettel

I'd swap the teammates. Max is very good but, for this season, I think Daniel will have the measure of him. Seb has had his fair share if misfortune and I rate him as a better driver then Kimi. Other then that, Red Bull certainly seem to have the legs on Ferrari at the moment and I don't see that turning around anytime soon.

Hmm, tricky one. Red Bull currently look to have the edge over Ferrari but things are very close and could change in a heartbeat. I find it hard to even predict which team mate will end up on top tbh!

I suspect Spa will be a Ferrari track, but there again if it's cooler then Kimi will suffer again. Ferrari could also implode a bit now that Allison has gone.

Wild stab in the dark:

3. Ricciardo
4. Vettel
5. Raikkonen
6. Verstappen

How's Daniel going to have the measure of him given that Max was in a Toro Rosso for the first 4 races of the season and yet only 18 points adrift and with 9 races to go.

Their total points scored together in the same machinery(Red Bull) despite Max having a DNF IN Monaco are

Verstappen: 102

Ricciardo: 97

Tricky one indeed. Think both Red Bull drivers will finish ahead of the Ferrari drivers, but the order of both pairs is hard to predict. Going to say 5: Vettel and 6: Kimi but 3&4 I can't say...
Had Max started the year at Red Bull his choice as 3rd would be pretty given though.

I think Dan has lost quite a
Few points to bad strategy, bad luck or poor crew work -
That would have put him much higher up - so with the same
Effort but normal luck - I think he'll be 3rd (unless Nico implodes) - and with rbr improving it should be MV next, then prob sv and kr

And if Dan hadn't been let down by the pit crew in Monaco it would be 104-102 in his favour. And then there's Spain.

Point being it's hardly inconceivable that Dan can have the measure of Max over the season, though not a certainty by any stretch.

I still think it can go either way.

How?

Its hardly inconceivable is it? Dan is 4-3 up on race finishes despite getting some rough luck in those 7 races.

It can go either way, but I feel Max will have an error or two that will swing it to Dan

It's 8 races and 4-4 - although should have really been 5-3 on best strategies for both.

But I agree - I still have Ricciardo beating Verstappen this year.

I think it'll be Ricciardo. It probably should have been Seb, without terrible luck and Ferrari blunders - but those points are lost, and now that RBR has overtaken them in the development race he's never getting them back.

3. Ricciardo
4. Verstappen
5. Vettel
6. Raikkonen

The bigger question is who's going to be 7th!

My (entirely theoretical and virtual) money's on Ricciardo at this point. Red Bull certainly seem to have caught and indeed surpassed Ferrari at this point in the season, and with an interim technical director and the likely scramble to fill that position, I don't see Ferrari managing to come back and make gains over the break. Therefore, it's very likely to be a Red Bull driver, unless either I'm wrong or they mess up big time; of the two Red Bull drivers, I expect Ricciardo to do better in the end.

There's a good chance that Verstappen will leapfrog both Ferraris at some point in the season, possibly even next race, and they're unlikely to be able to recover from that. As for whether Raikkonen or Vettel will finish ahead in the end, I'm giving the edge to Vettel, but I think there's a chance that Raikkonen will be the one who ends up in fifth... not that fifth or sixth matters all that. I'm afraid they've both completely lost the chance to finish third with Ferrari's early-season blunders and the near-certain lack of much real progress on the car from this point forward.

Dan
Max
Kimi
Seb

Ric has been off color for a few races before hungary. He seems to be back on it now & seems to have the measure of Max.

I can see Seb over driving out of frustration for the rest of the year, Kimi finishing above him is a real possibility.

There was already a thread about this a few weeks ago. Why create a new one?

viewtopic.php?f=3&t=13609

Anyway, I had picked Ricciardo back then and I'm sticking with him now. I think he is the best driver out of that foursome and the redbull is on the rise. If Ferrari does not manage to beat Redbull at Spa and Monza they are done.

Thanks for that, thought I'd voted and it wasn't showing up. I hadn't gone mad!

Max. He will have a good run at the remaining races that I think suit him, maybe apart Monza.

Rosberg.

Ricciardo will finish 2nd. Wouldn't put it past Red Bull to push forward.

I don't think it is anywhere near, seeing as how Hamilton just toyed with Ricciardo last race. With 65 points behind, still some competition from Ferrari to be expected and having only finished 2 races in front of Nico this year, it would be a really long shot for Dan to finish in front.

I mean, even if Ricciardo manages to finish all races in second place (can't see him touching Hamilton tbh) Rosberg can afford to finish all races in fourth.

I hope and think Dan that is if the second half of he seasons he wil be spared of bad luck a bit more.
Rosberg is going to up his performances I think and prserve his lead over the ones below him.

Very difficult to imagine that coming true. Rosberg is only slower than a Redbull when he gets the setup completely wrong. That will only likely happen one more time for the the rest of the season. He usually nails the setup and his race pace is usually comparable to Lewis. But there have been 2 occasions so far this year where he was way off; Monaco was one and Germany was the other.

He was off in Monaco beacause of the rain, not setup.

It really depends on how luck plays out, non finishes will have a large effect.

I see it going Ricciardo, Verstappen, Vettel, Raikkonen.

Vettel has had the edge on Kimi in performance, but Ferrari don't have the pace of the Red Bull in recent races and I suspect the gap will just grow for the duration of the season.

Ricciardo's lead over Max is very marginal points wise and that will depend on a lot of factors. I see Daniel swinging it.

Max's points flatter him, regardless of how good he is. He was lucky not to suffer a puncture in Hungary, following his double move.

Anyway, I wishful thinkingly voted Räikkönen. Have Ferrari visited the Pope yet? If not, it's time for some divine intervention; Kimi's not going to make it on icecream alone. 8)

I think Ricciardo, he has the qualifying advantage on Max which could be decisive in some races even though their race pace looks similar, while the Red Bull itself going forward is looking like it's going to be stronger than Ferrari.
