It's good to see young American drivers keen to try and get into F1 given the strength of their own domestic racing series, also out of interest Ahmed is one of Verschoors teammates in the Toyota Racing Series were he is taking a bit of a beating so I think Das needs to be beating Ahmed.

Aussie Joseph (Joey) Mawson moves to Van Amersfoort's European F3 team alongside David Beckman and Pedro Piquet.

Quote:
Mawson, 20, has spent the last three years in F4-level championships, starting with French F4 in 2014.

He finished fourth there before joining the Germany-based ADAC F4 series, taking third behind Marvin Dienst and last year's top European F3 rookie Joel Eriksson.

Mawson opted to continue in the series for another season, and ended up clinching the 2016 title, beating closest rival Mick Schumacher by 52 points.

He contested the Indian MRF Challenge series over the winter, tying on points with champion Harrison Newey but losing out to the Briton on countback.

https://www.motorsport.com/eurof3/news/ ... 1&q=Mawson

Personally, I'm thrilled over this. I used to work with Joey's dad, and remember Joey as a kid in Karting. They did it tough with little money, so if Joey can make a name for himself, and a decent living, it will be awesome!

More news from British Formula 3.

Double R Racing have signed female sensation Jamie Chadwick to their team. The 18-year old won the 2015 British GT series in the GT4 category and was part of the team that won the 24-hours of Silverstone.

In GP3 news, Jack Aitken will compete in the series joining Nirei Fukuzumi and George Russell with ART.

http://www.gp3series.com/News/2017/02_F ... x-in-2017/

Also in ART, the 2016 GP3 Series runner-up Alex Albon has been promoted to GP2 this season. The Thai native will join Nobuharu Matsushita for an all-Asian line-up.

McLaren have signed Lando Norris to their junior programme, which is a wise move considering it's pretty clear Nyck de Vries isn't going to make F1 (I struggle to understand why he's even been retained as part of their YDP) and Matsushita is only there because of Honda. They could very much do with finding themselves a couple of other young drivers to add to their ranks, although I suppose with Vandoorne they should have one seat filled for a number of years.

2 years to win in F4 then tying in a series with Harrison Newey however suggests he may not be a major talent?

Yeah Vries is just taking too long to show anything special although the way he talks he already thinks he's a major star.

I can't really see McLaren promoting a young driver for the next 2 or 3 years so that sort of timescale would suit Norris providing he gets the results needed.

The only thing I can think with de Vries is they seem him following Oliver Turvey's career path and, while never reaching the F1 grid, becoming an important part of their test/development team.

Probably a very good choice financially.

She is a nice looking girl. All sponsors like a nice looking girl, its good for their image to be photographed with them too
She is Colombian. So not only a South American, for the south american market but also a Spanish speaker.

As for her driving ability, I have to admit I dont know, but test drivers do more PR than actual driving

Edit, yes its sexist, but true

There are huge surprises in the Indy Lights series after day 1 of winter testing before the season opener 2 weeks away. Andretti Autosport just placed a clinic in the oval course at the Homestead International Raceway with Frenchman Nico Jamin posted the best time of :28.6991 followed by 2016 Euro Formula Open 3rd place finisher and teammate Colton Herta by .0088 seconds. Belardi Racing have occupied the next 2 spots with the team's newest acquisitions Santiago Urrutia who was runner-up in last year's Indy Lights championship and 2016 Pro Mazda champion Aaron Telitz going 3rd and 4th perspectively. The 3rd Andretti car of Dalton Kellett round out the top 5. Now the teams will do the road course twists in the 2nd day of March.

In Japan Formula 3 news and US talent search:

A dream continues. Riverton, Utah native Bruno Carneiro (Left alongside Albirex Racing principal Toshikazu Nakamura) struck a deal to race in the Japanese Formula 3 series. It is unbelievable on what the F1 driver development programs just passed up. And same goes to all GP3 and GP2 teams. In Homestead, Florida during Indy Lights training, Colton Herta - son of Indy Car Owner Bryan Herta - posted the best time this afternoon in the infield road course. The 3rd place finisher in the Euro Formula Open series in 2016 survived his sessions from his Andretti Autosport teammate Nico Jamin and Juncos Racing driver Kyle Kaiser who was fastest in morning practice. Santiago Urrutia posted the 4th fastest time. Juan Piedrahita rounds out the top 5. Even though he was not interested in Formula 1, at least they should have checked him out.

Sorry, not seeing it. His European feeder series results weren't that fantastic - I can see nothing that would make it a nobrainer for F1 teams to check him out and sign him up for a development programme.

Let's be honest: this isn't the first time Placid has completely overrated a young American driver simply because they're American. Nor is it the first time he's said something like it's a fact based on no more than speculation/his own opinion.

In other news...

- Marciello seems to have called quits on his single seater career. He will be moving to the Blancpain GT series. Once held in very high regard, it's a bit of a shame that his single seater career fell apart somewhat in GP2.

- Giovinazzi will not race this year, focusing on Ferrari duties

GPwho? GP2 is to be rebranded FIA's F2 series with immediate effect. Not a particularly surprising move seeing as they've wanted a F2 series for a while (indeed, when I went to Goodwood last year, they had an FIA tent which highlighted the different FIA feeder series. Where it listed F2 it simply had 'to be determined' or something like that besides it. Bit awkward!)

No word on whether GP3 will continue as GP3 or be otherwise rebranded; I assume it would remain as GP3 on the basis that there is already an FIA F3 series.
