3 weeks with no F1, free practice already underway and no thread? Guess I will start this one up then.

Any predictions for first free practice? Mercedes have a fancy new rear wing which looks ominious. Will be intresting to see how the McHonda's go. Hoping Kimi can have a good weekend for once!

Don't know but he's surely in 7th heaven after the contract extension!

Whatever Honda is saying, I can't believe McLaren can make a chassis so bad that it can only beat Marussia. How could they claim it's now the chassis that is holding the engine back?

Session is go! again...

Rosberg is having a bit of a nightmare session at the moment. Hopefully he is able to get a time on the board. McHonda not looking like they've made much progress atm, but there are more sessions yet so we shall see.

I thought those curved rear wing designs were not allowed? :? Maybe my memory fails but I cant remember seeing those since the end of 2008.

A random question for anyone who knows - Isn't the Belgium GP usually on the last weekend in August? How come it's a week earlier this year?

It is an achingly beautiful circuit.

La Sarthe and Nordschleife are better IMO. Although not F1 tracks.

Last year the race was on the 24th and so also not on the last weekend of August.

Nordschleife - definitely.

La Sarthe? Not so much. Quite a boring circuit if I'm honest, albeit challenging for the drivers.

Spa is the ultimate circuit, IMO.

Just glad F1 is back, it's felt like months since Hungary!

La sarthe is a very high speed track, I think its amazing to run it with extremely fast cars.

It's a beautiful track for sure, but hasn't really thrown up a good race since 2011, IMO

It reminds me of the old Hockenheim circuit, long straights broken up by chicanes and then a sweeping sector 3 to end the lap.

I enjoy driving it on Gran Turismo games, although I love Spa more ;)

Neither the Red Bulls. Or were they on softer tyres?

Last year I recall that RBR were running a skinny wing and were quicker than the Mercs in S1 and S3, but suffered by about 1 sec in sector 2 as a result. I wonder if they're doing the same this year...or is their pace genuine over all 3 sectors?

imho all top and some midfield teams will have brought a spa-spec and a monza-spec aero-package and will decide tonight or until FP3 which package they will use... Ferrari are already testing two different FW and they have brought 3 different rear wings... mercedes have the SuperDuperMegaAwesomeBananaBeerBellySpoonWingThing and a less weird even lower-drag version...

the thing is - RedBull last year benefited from having a wet-ish quali and a dry race, where they had an ultimate low-drag setup vs. all others running rather high DF due to quali conditions... this year - according to skysports at least - we have 97% of thunderstorms for sunday - so the ultimate low-drag trick might not work as well as it did last year...

Couldn't tell you about Williams, but McNish just said that this is the first race that Sauber are using the 2015 spec Ferrari engine.

Being fair I think a more apt name for the website this year would be "has someone crashed into Maldanado today". That's happened far, far more this season.

Not the forecast I saw. Rain was forecast after 4pm on Sunday. Has it changed?

Yeah a couple of surprising results, but with all they hype Spa gets, they have been pretty hum drum races for a few years.
