Thumb nose + dull as hell livery, looks like I'm in the minority here but I'm going to have to vote boring.

Quite a nicely shaped car other than the nose though, I'd vote somewhere between option 2 and 3.

It looks quite cool with a white background but it doesn't look great on track, the grey is a shade too dark.

The noses are ugly, they all look like something you'd plug into the wall to get electricity.

I prefer the previous one, honestly... now it looks like a boring mixture of the previous mclaren livery and the marussia livery of some years ago

Thing is though that even if they are a midfield team their cars look like a frontrunner, which the Marussia or Virgins never did. You could tell straight away where those cars belonged.

I Think it's awesome! Sure grey is considered dull, but the red and grey really go together. Also they have managed to make the sharkfin less ugly than the others.

Agreed on the shark fin as they're the only ones who've done anything interesting there.

That grey though looks like high gloss primer or plumbers putty.

Unlikeyouday: did you do the deal with Bernie last year to present all the new 2017 cars? Have you extended the deal with Liberty? Rumours of you getting 15% commission, are they true?

Seriously, thanks for showing us; exciting pics.

I didn't like the livery initially, but it's grown on me. I'm going with the best option at this point, if for no other reason than the unusual treatment on the shark fin -- I really like that. The grey of the car might be a bit dull, and it may blend in a bit too much on track, but I like the red accents well enough and at least to me it is a distinctive livery, which is part of the point.

It's also good to see that Haas is doing some unusual things with the car. Some aspects of the design still seem fairly conservative, but they've got a contoured section to the shark fin that most other cars don't have, and it looks like some interesting vent work around the base of the car.

Trying to gauge how a car really looks by a photo never really works well. Tomorrow when they are all on the track should be a much better indicator of how they compare to each other. Wish i could be there.

Yes I agree... not a very inspired livery.

This livery is an odd one for me. On the whole, I consider it quite bland - but the treatment of the shark fin totally works for me, and is by far the best I've seen. We'll have to see it on track, but in stills it makes the sharkfin almost invisible to the natural pattern of the eye - very cleverly done!

I'd prefer a slightly different shade of grey and maybe more white, but it's not bad. And it does closely follow Haas' corporate branding, which realistically everyone knew it would. I suppose the only thing I really don't like is the horribly square way the red joins the front wing.

I voted it boring, but after typing all that I'd change my vote to average if I could! x(

It needs more white. Though the disparate style choices are striking and with potential, the effect of the fin in motion will look like too much of an afterthought without the integration of lighter tones into the main body.

The grey put me off on first viewing but I've come to realize that it's not the color itself but how big of an uninterrupted expanse of it there is. I think if they just carried the red from the nose up trough the cockpit area it would break it up a bit it'd be a lot better.

Although I realize (more like reeeeally hoping) this is likely just a test livery like last year, I'm really disappointed in an American car looking like this if it is indeed going to be their livery. The car itself is actually quite beautiful but the ultra-BORING color KILLS it, but that may their goal so as to hide some of their features from the competition.

Here's a quick colorization that gives the car some life!

Image

The ends of the front wing in white would REALLY spruce it up even more.

I think that colorisation is... well, it's okay in its own right, but that would just look like another Red Bull livery on the track to me- there's enough blue on the track as it is!

I actually don't mind the gunboat grey of the Haas. If anything, I think the blocky red nose looks a bit awkward- I've always thought of it as honouring Ferrari's involvement with the team. I don't think they need to do anything to make the car look more patriotic, but you have just reminded me of all the hilarious USF1 mock-up liveries that went around circa 2010. McDonalds logo, Budweiser logo, huge Eagle mascot on the front...

The only trully Blue car on the grid is now the Toro Rosso. Red Bull have been running a VERY dark blue that's lost the blue hue more and more each year and now that it's sating finish it's become even darker, almost a black. Toro Rosso has run a slightly less dull and dark blue, though still nothing vibrant. I'm very happy they've finally ditched the horrifically ugly gold from their livery this year which is a great change, but Haas should feature some correlation to the U.S. colors. This is international competition and being as we've not had an F1 team for decades, I think a patriotic tie in is appropriate.

And IMPO there were some very nice mockups for USF1.

Keep in mind that the goal for me doing this is to show that the dull gray can and should be improved upon.

Of all the teams, only Ferrari has any tie-in with the national colors, and that's more of a coincidence at this point than anything else. Haas isn't here to advertise America to the world, they're here to advertise Haas Automation to the world. It would be silly for them to use anything other than their corporate colors, unless they get a title sponsor willing to put up some big bucks for a different design.

That aside, I think this year the grid is plenty colorful and I actually prefer Haas' grey scheme. We have a good balance right now, with about half of the teams featuring a colorful livery and about half going with grey, silver, black or white as the primary color.

They really should have kept the white is my only problem. To illustrate: this is a Haas Automation machine:

Image
http://int.haascnc.com/mt_spec1.asp?intLanguageCode=1033&id=VF-2SS&webID=SUPER_SPEED_VMC&CatID=Control%20Options&options=true

And this was last year's F1 car:

Image
http://m.gpupdate.net/en/f1-news/341293/haas-opts-to-switch-focus-to-2017-car/

Primarily white, dark grey or black borders, red lettering. That's branding consistency, something Haas' website and products show a good amount of. This year's car, however:

Image
http://www.thisisf1.com/2017/02/25/2017-haas-f1-car-vf17-photo-leaked/

Doesn't look anything like the CNC machine, unless Haas is secretly planning on making their next models all grey. Last year they added the white after testing, so we can always hope.

Haas machines are actually not white but the livery sure was and it looked much better and I agree white should be back this season. Hopefully they change it for the start of the season like last year.

Haas F1 team has changed its livery to accentuate the driver names on the car:

I still think the Red should've been present on the car. Full Grey looks too plain to the eye.

That dull grey still looks like some basic color waiting to be painted in some real color.

They say that changing the colour makes the car more visible, a grey car on grey tarmac is not very visible, I still think they should have gone red, white and blue.

In the mock-ups they've published, I personally think it looks a lot nicer without the flashes of red. Whether going even greyer works on-track is another matter...

I can only assume the most recent directors meeting came to the conclusion that the livery wasn't dull enough, hence why they have removed what little colour they had.
