So it has begun…

"Renault will make changes to its rear wing design before the Australian Grand Prix after the FIA advised that its support pillar concept could breach Formula 1 rules.

Rivals queried the design of the RS27's support pillar almost immediately after its launch in London last week.

The issue revolved around the pillar support which, rather than being attached to the main plane, joined the wing at the DRS actuator pod.

Article 3.9.6 of F1's technical regulations states that the support must be extended until it meets the area of the regulations that is related to the area of the rear wing main plane as defined in article 3.9.1."


Renault argued this:

"The argument was that this was allowed because there is a subsequent regulation that allows the support to be attached to "minimal parts solely associated with the adjustment of the [DRS]."

I have a sneaking suspicion that the big boys are behind this as they want to ensure their positions at the front of the field by any means necessary.
If so, not cool. They all enjoy added advantages due to advents of their own, many of which are questionable. Linked suspensions, for those that supply engines, they run upgraded components for a few races before they supply customer teams and even supply under powered year old units to customer teams (both practices that should not be allowed), and when customer teams develop a superior system they use their position to gain access to all data on them so they can incorporate it onto their own cars.

Renault is a manufacturer team with plenty of resources, so let's see if this inspires them to launch a formal protest against features on competitors' cars.

I'd more suspect it to be teams like force India, toro Rosso and Williams who will be in more direct competition
