I was watching the 1998 Italian GP and when Coulthard's engine blew Häkkinen was slowed and allowed Schumi to get along side. I remember at some point (i think Monza) a similar thing happened and as the two were side by side Brundle said in commentary 'It a straight drag race!' (to the next corner) which Schumi won

Now it doesn't seem to be 1998, 99, 2000 or 2001

Hopefully i'm not the only who remembers this :? :-P

I can't figure out what race you are thinking of. But, your thread has allowed me to spend about an hour watching awesome Schumi Vs Hakkinen videos. Some fantastic stuff there!

I know, it's great looking back at their rivalry

I remember at the time thinking how hard the cars looked to drive

I was around 20 when they were going at it and still young enough to think i could do that

Then i saw how good you had to be and i thought, nah I'll leave it to them ;)

Maybe Austria? The straight at the top of the hill past the hairpin? I can remember them being side by side there once or twice.

I distinctly remember Hakkinen and Schumacher having an epic battle at Spa one year possibly 1999 or 2000 on the straight after Eau Rouge, pretty sure Hakkinen came out on top!

Yeah, going either side past Zonta. In fact, that could well be were this commentary came from.

I know this thread is strictly pre-season dreaming but i recall it as Hakkinen being in the lead and running wide at a corner like the Roggia chicane. This allowed Schumacher to draw along side. It was then flat out until the right hand turn

I see it as being in a tree lined area, on a level track and it turning right

I thought it might be Montoya - Schumi, Hill - Schumi, Alonso -Schumi, even Hamilton - Massa but i can stop seeing it as Hakkinen - Schumi. But that doesn't work as all the races where Mika was reasonably competitive (98-01) it didn't occur

God know.
