They all made mistakes.

Vettel, run 1 - all over, run 2 - at the chicane
Hamilton, run 1 - middle sector, run 2 - final sector
Bottas, run 1 - sector 3, run 2 - sector 3? I assume as he was -0.1 on Hamilton and ended +0.3
Kimi, he just seemed a lot slower than I expected from him given his pace all the way up until Q3.

It was very unusual to see the cars 1 second quicker in Q3 than Q2. They usually switch it up for Q2.

I thought in Q2 that they just did what they had to do to advance to Q3 while doing as little damage as possible to their race tyres.

What? I remember at least Vettel and Hamilton also not improving... :?

He rarely improves on his 2nd run in Q3, where as most of the other guys do. He had a chance at pole in Sochi, but ran wide in the last corner, in Bahrain he couldn't improve and was beaten by one of the Red Bulls even.

Yesterday he was up on Lewis' time up to the 2nd sector, but bottled it in the final sector. He should have qualified ahead of Valtteri at the least.

Vettel definitely improved and I'm pretty surecHamiltin did.

Vettel did, Hamilton didn't.

Only Seb made improvement on the final run from Top 4. But both Seb and Kimi were up 4 tenths after s2 against Lewis's provisional pole, but lost in S3 due to mistakes and car characteristics.

Ok, saying he rarely improves whereas most of the others do is a bit different to saying he never does whereas all the others do.

I only remembered it was at least 2/top4 that didn't improve so I got the Vettel bit wrong, but still it was incorrect to single out Kimi.

to me he seemed far too wide coming out of the chicane. well up on the sausage. as soon as i saw that i thought he would probably be forth. very disappointing but thats what kimi does. hes never been a great qualifier. though in fairness seb pulled something out in the middle sector and went s good chunk faster then he had, which is ultimately what got him 2nd.

Yeah I recall him getting the two left wheels well out over the sausage kerb. I thought he might have gotten away with it because it didn't throw the car into a wobbly. But if he damaged the underside of the car I wouldn't have been surprised

Well Ricciardo couldn't overtake Vettel either, so why single Kimi out? It's just a hard track to overtake on, surely?

Every track is a hard track to overtake on when it comes to Mr. Matias.

seems you have a bit of a bee in your bonnet. As already pointed out, he wasn't the only one. He wasn't even the only high profile one. So the comment's pretty pointless really

Today you saw how leading drivers decisively overtake with a car advantage.

Different year, completely different cars. Not to mention an extended DRS area. Don't know how you can make the comparison, really

I have to side with Zoue here Reservoir

Kimi is a super fair clean driver, maybe to his own detriment, that might bring some hesitation on some moves. Or you can factor in any other reason you feel, age, peak speed etc... Sometimes he seems more like an endurance racer, he lets stuff come to him instead of creating, he also manages his tires well and has good sense on how the race is progressing, risk/reward kind of situation . Who knows, maybe he should follow Webber and try LMP cars when he decides to leave.

But some of the best overtakes on the last few years have been made by Mr. Matias

BTW, Hamilton absolutely ravaged S3 in qualifying. What's the deal there? It seems to be extremely difficult to nail. 27.6 IIRC.

And Vettel destroyed S1 and 2 similarly but without such a dramatic advantage.
