Englands Rose

The day we lost our Nations Rose
Tears we cried like rivers flowed,
The earth stood still
As we laid her to rest,
A day you & I
Will never forget
The people's princess
Who came to see,
The love from a Country
We'd hope she'd lead,
Englands beauty
Captured in one sweet soul,
Carried the torch
God rest her soul,
With the gift she had
Shed light up the way,
With a smile to show us a brighter day,
Hearts still full
of the love she gave,
20 years since she laid in her grave
There will never be another like you,
Now a shinning star in the midnight sky
I will always remember you,
Princess Diana
As our sweet nations Rose🌹
By Lewis Hamilton

Haters gonna hate, as usual. I'm not much for poems, and this one doesn't touch me either. But the gesture does, I think it's was a beautiful thing to do.

Well, it is the poetry, and the beauty is in the eye of the beholder. I take it that it comes from his heart and it is the expression of his genuine feelings, and that's all what matters.
As far as I am concerned, was it signed "by Elton John" and not "by Lewis Hamilton" I wouldn't be able to tell a difference. But then, I am not a poetry critic anyway.

Anyone with the nuts to publicly put out something like poetry has my respect. Fair play to him.

(Prefer a naughty limerick myself but considering the subject matter I'll give him a pass. :o )

To be fair he was only 12 when Diana died. Maybe he's been hanging on to the poem since then.

 ouch

I'm not one for poetry and so have no idea how good it is but it looks like a poem to me so fair enough. Speaking of Lewis' off track activities, weren't we supposed to have an album by now?

It's just a little odd that he felt the need to release it on Instagram. I felt no desire to release the poem I wrote when Bouncer the Labrador died in Neighbours.

Cracking driver, I'm a big fan on the track. I just wish he wouldn't keep finding new ingenious ways to out bulls**t himself. Like last year when he won a race (Canada I think) and said he'd spent the last 20 laps thinking about Mohammed Ali.

I'm just not really a fan of people trying to out-grieve each other over someone they've never met. Especially someone who died 2 decades ago when he was 12.

If it's heart felt I have no problem with him putting it out there.

Artistically it's all over the place though. It starts off with a sort of rhyming scheme that gets abonanded after the first third and goes nowhere from there.

He needs to sort his grammar as well.

Grammar isn't important in poetry.

e.e. cummings made a career out of ignoring it.

To some extent that's true, but you need some consistency in your writing. Capital letters being and obvious one.

The reference is lost on me, but did Instagram exist then? I imagine not. Had it existed and you'd been an avid user, perhaps you might have?

I don't know - I thought his reference to sheds was pretty poignant...

Not my cup of tea, both the subject matter and the poem itself, but fair play to him for having the confidence to put it out there. I'll happily admit I wouldn't have the balls, myself!

This is clever. This is just mind games!

Vettel will now think that Hamilton has become a poet & has mellowed down, not being his usual self a brilliant racer. Vettel will now drop his guard & Hamilton will win the WDC.

How are people getting angry/spouting hate on an Instagram posting that is about self expression that isn't aimed for them specifically?

I personally saw, kept scrolling as I'm not a big fan of the monarchy and it wasn't racing related. I chose to do that. I also chose not to be angry about it too. try it, it's better for your heart not to hate.

What part of my post lead you to believe I'm angry? :?

I don't hate Lewis at all, I just think that poem is terrible.
