Seb was the best that was a breathtaking drive coming through the field on a track that was almost impossible to pass on

Er, he was only coming through the field because he screwed his and Hamilton's race at the start. Turning an easy podium into p4 is hardly DOTD material.

For me the possibility to earn the driver of the day was over for Vettel after turn one.
So ... Verstappen (easy), Ocon (again better than Perez). I struggle to name a third one, so that's it for me.

For Gasly to finish - without having had ANY real hot laps during practice and qualifying. Well done! With a Renault lump!

.

I voted for Bottas because he drove competently and ensured that Vettel lost the championship after his mess-up.

Verstappen, Ocon and Stroll.

Vettel may have come through the field impressively but he was there due to his own fault.

Max Verstappen was the standout performer for me. His overtake at the first corner was brilliant and then he was well in control from there.

Ocon and Stroll best of the rest.

Brazen fanboyism. Vettel trashed his hopes taking his WDC to the next race. Yet somehow he's driver of the weekend.

Alonso, Vandoorne and most of all Ericsson.

Magnussen - the Haas was the worst car around here
Verstappen - brilliant
Alonso, Ocon, and
Ericsson - who had Wehrlein under control all weekend

Disappointing:
"crash-champion" Vettel
Räikkönen - should have challenged for the win
Massa

Some are tyred of the praise I give on Ericsson, but I appreciate he is getting some this weekend by someone. He was really good in qualifying. Only just outside of Q2. He then had a very solid first stint. Pitted at what looked to be a good time, but several managed to jump him by pitting under the VSC. Even so, he still came out quite comfortably ahead of his team mate. Such a shame he has reliability problems here though. He had a really solid race last year here too. And he's had decent form in qualifying for the past 3 races too. Still possible to tie with Wehrlein in the qualifying battle.

Other than the fact Ericsson has had several crashes this year, I think his pace is basically even with his team mate and quite often better. But Wehrlein is better on the whole. Just not by much.

I won't count Alonso. His defense against Hamilton was amazing, BUT in the process he made it impossible for himself to overtake Haas. His only shot at overtaking him was to let LH go, and hoping he'd easily overtake Magnussen, and then Alonso might've had a chance. It was obvious there were enough laps for LH to eventually overtake Alonso, so there was no point in defending against him and losing massive time.

So, I've give it to Verstappen for the brave overtake at Turn one.

Don't forget Paolo, he also mentioned Ericsson! It's probably little more than an assumption, but I feel Ericsson would have blossomed earlier, had Sauber retained a more solid financial footing. I've had a soft spot for them since they entered F1, and I hope next year will see them rise again. With Ericsson, why not?

You have to be thankful that he removes all doubt as to whether or not to take him seriously. Most people try to cover up their absurd biases.

It was almost impossible to pass, Hamilton made very little ground at all despite having the best car on the track. Whatever you think of the first lap incident, Seb drove amazing to get back to 4th after being second last on lap 2. Some of his moves were incredibly brave where he risked everything.

Yes Verstappen drove well but it was easy for him once Seb and Hamilton tangled together.

Impossible to pass??
How about on that long straight with DRS open? All you have to do is get close in the last few corners, after that just keep your foot down. Lewis’ car was clearly lacking downforce, but that Ferrari was always going to cruise through the traffic.

And some of his moves were incredibly stupid. Like hitting Max and Lewis on the rear tyre! I fail to see the brave ones.

Was overtaking that hard? Hamilton did ok with a wrecked diffuser, Seb was in the second fastest car (possibly joint second, we didn't really get to see the Merc's true pace) and was able to bolt on ultra softs that proved to be bulletproof for a large chunk of the race. I can remember two ballsy moves; the one on Massa and the one where he dived late for the inside, had a little lock up but still got it done (can't remember who it was on off the top of my head), the rest of his overtakes were just standard fast car takes slower car stuff. I'd argue he can't be given that much credit anyway because the only reason he was in a position to make some moves was because of a dim bit of driving.

Anyone not voting Verstappen is at it.

Is that the biggest winning margin of the season?

Vettel does deserve some credit and pulled off some good overtaking moves but the only drivers who seem to put any defence is Massa and Alonso. Hardly any drivers seem to even think about taking the inside line.

How just how was Massa disappointing? He was far better than Stroll in qualifying and then suffered a front right puncture and had to trail around and box. ANd then nearly recovered to a points finish. I think he'd have easily been 5th if not for this. Hardly disappointing. Just his bad luck continuing. That is twice this season that he's had a puncture out of his control ruin his race as well as lots of retirements.

Yes, 14 votes for a driver at a center of a racing incident where any other driver would have made the same mistake. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I know I'm a fan of Bottas and not so much of Hamilton, but is Hamilton's championship somehow triggering a load of votes? The fact that he got his WDC doesn't make his drive better. This whole weekend, I'm not convinced he's really been any better than his team mate. And given that he was lapped, (not his own fault) we don't know what he could have done. But in practice and qualifying, he didn't look as strong as normal.

Disappointed in the lack of votes for KMag. 8th place in the slowest car this weekend was one hell of a result

You must be the only person in this entire forum that thinks Bottas is in anyway equal to Hamilton. That's an amazing conclusion to make.

Yeah. Alonso has more votes despite finishing behind with a slower car. Magnussen was driver of the day for me.

I think Ocon was on for the podium without the VSC.

You are right, but the same goes for you, as your statement is purely subjective and you have no idea how the race would have been.
