On C4 they're saying as per the onboard camera, Hamilton lost the car when downshifting!

What an extraordinary error from Hamilton - never saw that one coming.

Should be entertaining seeing him come from the back tomorrow....

Driver error? Just when he hadn't made a proper one all season. I've never seen Hamilton lose it mid corner before. Will be good to see him come though. Shame it won't be wet that could have been epic.

New engine and gearbox too?

What was a little amusing about the way Sky reacted was when they noticed him sliding towards the wall, then didn't sound like they thought he would crash. Then when he did crash, they suddenly mentioned it. It seemed like they thought he could correct it when it just looked impossible. You can't magically recover when going off at that speed. You could tell several seconds before the crash that it would be a big one.

All the talk about whether he would help Bottas seems irrelevant now!! Bottas needs to do it all by himself. Let’s see if steps up...

No, just part of the game plan for Bottas to win the race

If you mean crash, then yes. But Monaco qualifying was a pretty big mistake.

BTW is there a slim chance Hamilton can still get out for a run in Q1 or is that that? I don't know the rules here, nor extent of damage.

No, if you don't make it back to the pits under your own power you are out.

If this championship was still alive it would have been a HUGE mistake, but now it can be classified as another example of Lewis taking his eye off the ball when the title is decided.

Ooh that was a pretty basic error. If I was being diplomatic I would call it post title hangover driving.

The top 3 teams advantage over the rest of the field means that 6th place must still be the minimum expectation.

Well Ferrari have equal pace on the harder tyre right now, so Vettel. In Seb I trust.

The Hamilton accident does at least provide Merc with another opportunity to have a look at Bottas under pressure.

The Merc is fast this weekend so the team will expect him to be able to win this race. Especially as Red Bull have not been so quick.

Yes me too, I meant more the individual battle between those two.

That's why Mercedes would love to swap Hamilton with Max.

Terrible error from Hamilton actually embarrassing for the sport.

I think Brazil 2014 during the race is the last time Hamilton had an unforced huge error during a race too. Anybody think of another? It was quite similar to the one today too. Brazil, really isn't a strong Hamilton track.

Are we sure there wasn't a car issue? He seemed to be paying close attention to his rear wing when he got out of the car

Massa may not be the one of the best drivers out there, But I don't think he's far off the top 10 at all. He's showing he still has real pace. I find it a shame Williams are wanting other drivers. I still think he's a safer option than any they appear to be considering.

I think he also lost the car in Austria 15' during qualifying?

He doesn't make lots of mistakes but you would never see a young hungry Max do that.

Anyway Hamilton officially out of qualifying :D
