For the 2017 season the Aston Martin WEC team has endured highs and lows. They led the championship until the last few races of the season, then collapsed, and saw the title slip out of their grasp. But in racing, you quickly put the past behind you and look forward to the next season. The old car which was in service since 2016 has been good, but in racing, if you are not moving forward, you are basically not going to win anything. And today they unveiled their new car. This is a brand new car, and the major differences from the 2017 car is a new twin-turbocharged 4.0-liter V8 engine, produced by Mercedes-Benz, and a stiffer chassis.

A stiffer chassis may not seem exciting, but for the technology of going fast, essential. And although the new engine cannot match the beautiful sound from the previous engine, it will be more efficient and deliver more power.

And make no mistake about it, I am a mega fan of Nicki Thiim.

Sebring is the place to test if you want to make sure the car isn't going to shake itself to death.

Manufacturers should not be allowed to enter under their badge if they are powered by rivals.

It's one thing to be a privateer team buying a purpose built chassis from a company who exists to supply just that (Dallara, Reynard, Lola - RIP – and the like) and then select a drive train to power it, but if a "manufacturer" enters races as such, it's vehicles should be manufactured 100% by them. If not they should not be designated manufacturers in any racing series they do this in. If you can't hang using your own drivetrain you need to work harder to make it better so you can compete. Aston Martin's AMEP is promoted as a top-notch facility that supposedly creates "state of the art" engines for the brand and that is where the engines for their factory race programs should come from. You wont EVER see a factory or customer Ferrari fitted with a drivetrain that isn't built by them because it would then cease to be a Ferrari and that is how it should be.

The only way I wouldn't have an issue is if it was a privateer team that buys the chassis and decides to run a different drivetrain but they wouldn't be entered as a factory or manufacturer team. As for the styling of this car, from the pic it kind of resembles the 300z in several areas.

Much better from that angle but still a little 350z-ish in it's aesthetics and proportions. The front is just not as blunt as the Nissan but resembles a Hyundai Genesis a bit too.
