Article is in Dutch but talks about an interview with Waché in the reputable French paper L'Equipe. Waché talks about how he is to follow up Newey with immediate effect.

Big news for sure.

Seems real.

Interesting bit here: Waché talks about how Newey put more emphasis on aero while he himself will put more on chassis and traction, the "link with the ground" as he states it.

Translated

"Newey was known as the guru of aerodynamics within Formula 1. The 59-year-old Briton, however, also left his expertise outside of the world class of motorsport, for example in the development of the Aston Martin Valkyrie. In recent years, however, the head designer has built a team of technical specialists around him, consisting of Rob Marshall, Paul Monagan and Pierre Waché. The latter would now take over the duties of Newey within the Red Bull team with immediate effect.

Pierre Waché

Frenchman Pierre Waché speaks in conversation with l'Equipe that he knows what he is about. 'I know what I represent with this position and also the risk attached,' he starts. However, Waché is not afraid of that risk. 'I would not say that it scares me, but I know the performance obligation that sticks to this function. However, I am driven to show that I am able to do well.

Future
According to the Frenchman it was Newey himself who suggested that Waché would become his successor. Yet he indicates that he will not always choose the same path as his predecessor. "Of course I will not change everything, but will necessarily act differently. Adrian (Newey red.) Worked a lot on aerodynamics, while I'm trying to really get the car on the ground, "Waché confirms his predilection for downforce. 'The ties also have their complexity and that fascinates me', he concludes."

It's L'Equipe doing an interview with Waché. Can't imagine the guy is lying nor L'Equipe is inventing an interview.

Probably because it's in French media that traction is slow?

L'Equipe is a trustworthy source, but for an announcement this big, surely Red Bull would have put something out?

Nuance: maybe he could be staying, just stepping down as technical director.

I thought he said 2 years ago he was 'stepping back' from the F1 side to concentrate on other projects?

He did, this is just a continuation of what was stated before. If i remember correctly he stepped down as the head of the department and the day to day operation but would still be involved in the overall engineering of the cars. Giving him more time to work on the concept hyper car he created with aston martin.

Exactly. The guy has been on and off again since 2014, so nothing new here.

Well there clearly is something new here as Waché is now technical director at RBR, which he wasn't before.
