Unsurprising choice, hopefully he can be a bit of a sleeper hit, though if Kyvat has got his head back in the right place it'll be a bad time for him. No one rates Kyvat anymore, despite him tasty enough to get a seat at the top team (a la Gasly right now), so a crushing defeat would be a quick end to his F1 sojourn.

Great to see all these F2 drivers getting a chance at the real thing next year. Hope they do well...

I won't shed many tears for the loss of Sirotkin or Vandoorne.

It was time for Alonso to move on and do something else. We need to see him in something that can show off what driving talent he has left.

Hartley & Ocon would have been worth keeping.

I look forward to seeing Ericsson in Indycar. Hope he does well there.

I'm baffled by why you think Hartley was doing a better job than Vandoorne, to be honest. Gasly is no Alonso. Or is this because you think Alonso has lost his peak talent and being beaten by him is now more of a mark against you than it used to be?

guess it's more about the style. Losing itself doesn't have to be bad but... 21-0 in qualifying? No matter who is your teammate being destroyed 21-0 can suggest that maybe the guy with 0 is not F1 level material.

I fully believe that Alonso would have out-qualified Hartley 21-0 as well.

Hartley got 4 points in a car that Gasly scored 29 in. Vandoorne got 12 points in a car that Fernando got 50 in. So those stats look better for Vandoorne than Hartley. Neither are quick enough for F1 though.

It's not just being beaten by Alonso; it's being beaten in every single qualifying session and all but 2 or 3 races. It's just way too lopsided to have anything positive to say about it. I'd say Vandoorne had maybe 3 objectively good race weekends all year. That's bad.

I've got to say I find it a little bizarre that Lance Stroll hasn't been announced as a Force India driver yet. Every other element has been addressed: Perez re-signing, Ocon being named Mercedes reserve driver, both Williams seats being filled, and even Stroll driving for the team in this week's test.

At this point the only thing I can think is that Force India's potential name change is somehow linked to a sponsorship deal that the Stroll family are also linked to, and the idea is to announce the new team name, sponsorship deal and confirm Lance's arrival all in one neatly packaged press conference?

Force India's the only team now left to confirm the 2nd diver which we know is Stroll. They are aware all know this fact so are not rushing into it. BTW, today Stroll will be driving a Force India car for the first time in the post season test & I'm awaiting to see his times & feedback when compared to the Williams car that he was more like a passenger in.

You may be right about Hartley. Still Toro Rosso is not up to the pace of McLaren so Stoffel had an easier time collecting his 12 points than Brendon did fighting for his four. Brendon had five retirements while Stoffel had only two. Brendon had three points finishes while Stoffel had just one more at four.

In the end though I would say that my regret at seeing Brendon leaving has a lot to do with the fact that I have been watching him with more interest than Stoffel. Paying attention to Toro Rosso for their progress (or lack thereof) with the Honda power unit, Brendon seems to be a fairly likable guy and can occasionally contend with his team mate. Stoffel was always that guy lining up behind Fernando.

It looks good, but I can't quite get over how the graphic is a little low resolution for something being released by an F1 sponsor...

The sooner Rich Energy's cheques bounce and they disappear, the better. Not that Haas have done anything to endear themselves to us this year, mind.

I still like Haas. If you're talking about the Force India protest, I honestly think Force India had it coming for the (completely fabricated) stink they made about the Haas being supposedly an illegal Ferrari copy.

Ocon as of now is the reserve driver for Mercedes but could be the reserve for Force India & Williams as well.
https://www.sportsmole.co.uk/formula-1/mercedes/news/ocon-eyes-williams-force-india-roles-for-2019_342906.html

Has it ever happened before a where a single driver was a reserve for more than 1 team?

Racing Point Force India will be renamed to Racing Point F1 in 2019:

Well we've certainly had some surprises this silly season eh?

We've had Ricciardo to Renault, Kubica to Williams, Kvyat return to TR & Raikkonen to Sauber but Stroll to Racing Point? I'd have taken 1000/1 on that happening.

That's the beauty of this sport. It never ceases to amaze.

What's next I wonder? Mercedes & Ferrari filling the top 2 spots in next years constructors championship?

Ha, yeah right.

It looks as if made to please. What I noticed is the DRS of the Ferrari wasn't open but can't say for sure.

That doesn't really show if cars can follow more closely, more just like a normal DRS pass, also in testing you don't know the fuel loads.

Just a livery concept shared online for Racing Point next year. If BWT remains their sponsor, I doubt BWT would allow any other colour apart from Pink.

A livery concept from who, some random person or someone actually associated with the team? Because unless the source has got some kind of link with the team (such as the Rich Energy one) then it's completely meaningless and not even worth posting.

Don't get me wrong, it's a nice concept, but there are literally hundreds out there. It would be better to create a new thread for those rather than including them in this thread.

Could this be a possible new sponsor for McLaren? The article includes comments from Zak Brown so it seems to be more on the racing side of things rather than the road car side:

Otmar had said during some interview in Abu Dhabi that he was about 99% sure the car's Pink livery will remain on the 2019 car. So Pink stays.
