One of my favourite tracks of the year. My favourite track in F1 2017 game as well. Sheer joy to lap around this track.

The hypersofts should have been used here imo

Same here, very fun track to drive around. Low downforce with the car on edge of being alittle too loose in the old township section. Love how the walls are right there on the track limits almost around the entire track.

Looks like Renault may be going for different strategy options to most. Planning fewer stops, maybe?

Come race day both Ferrari drivers will have 1 set of softs and 1 set of supersofts. The Mercedes will have 1 set of softs and 2 sets of supersofts. It's just common practice for the teams to split the two harder compound work between their drivers.

I don't think it's that aggressive though it's a pretty low degradation circuit IIRC so I imagine it will be a one stop. Pirelli should have probably brought the hypersofts here but of course they made the selection for this race before pre season testing so they had no idea how well the hypers would hold up.

Then you're both weird!

I actually like some parts of it (mostly the middle) but I think the braking zones are hard to spot correctly and the back stretch is dull. Granted, it probably doesn't feel that way in a real car...

Yeah add me to the weirdo club.
I think the track is fantastic to drive. It is so unforgiving, the track surface is so slippery. I love doing online 25% races on that track with damage on.
Agree with the hard to pick up braking zones though, but it's part of the fun.

Add me to the weirdo club then as well because it's one of my favourites to race on online too. Completely agree about it being unforgiving as well, I think that's it's best point. Very quick and easy to tap a rear wheel on something and you're pointing the way you came. Some tricky cambered corners too that if you nail gets rewarded but if you don't costs you a bucket.

Already a modern classic in my eyes after just two visits.

I agree as well. I wanted to hate it so much but the track really does have a unique character of its own and has proven to be a real challenge for the drivers.

Good with the F1 2017 game where they add events during the race weekend. This time they've added a race event where You'll be in Stroll's shoes. However the event starts in 2 days (under 48 hours) precisely.

This year Ferrari (engine) looks as powerful as Mercedes. Renault cars may suffer a little. McLaren should suffer big time as they're the most drag loving car which makes them the slowest, not a good thing for the long straights of Baku.

There's a good chance for the 1st time we'll see a standing start for the 2nd time as a safety car outing is inevitable due to no run off areas & unforgiving walls. Only if a crash is big, would the race be stopped that would lead to a standing start in the order the race was stopped. This track so much reminds me of the tricky circuits of Formula E.

Can't believe Mercedes haven't won a race yet this season and we're three races in. Seems surreal after the last few years. Something tells me they will be back at the front again this race, though. They got pole by over a second last year and it's hard to imagine other teams overcoming that sort of deficit. Won't be as cold as China was, either, which should play into Mercedes' hands a bit in terms of getting their tyres to work. I'll go out on a limb and predict pole for Hamilton

For the sake of the championship and my hope of a 2012-ish season I hope Lewis,Kimi,Bottas or Max wins. Those 3 teams and 6 drivers sharing wins all year will do me.

Just need McLaren to find a second and a half with the Spain upgrade and Alonso to win a race with a bunch of retirements in Baku and we're in business.

There is a lot of talk about Merc not getting their tyres to work. Or, if they did manage to get them working, they would be miles ahead of the field. But no one seems to be asking themselves if actually this approach is what got them 4 world championships.

- My guess is that they know how to make their tyres work very well. But if they do that, they are slow.

- Therefore they take the radical approach which gets them up in quali and controling the races. Or it did in the past.

- So yes, on some tracks this approach will mean pole, as you preddict, while in others being less competitive.

I still think their approach on F1 has been the most innovative so far. I love how they divided a race weekend into different moments, the Quali and the race. So they optimised the car around those critical moments. While the classic approach was to build a the fastest and most reliable car, they went about building a car that is perfect for the moments that matter in a race weekend.

I'm not sure I see them doing anything different in that respect to anyone else? I think every team goes for pole if they think they have a good chance, and optimizes their car for the race if they think they will likely have to do more overtaking. What do you see that Merc do different?

Hoping for a dominant Hamilton pole, race win, and WDC lead! :]

Yes, I'm tired of the dominant Ferrari.

You are hoping for the bold part on every race since I remember!

Also, the Ferrari are not dominant, they are arguably the faster car, but dominant?

I'd say they were dominant in qualifying in China, but otherwise no. Seems strange that someone is tired of dominance after a single session when we've had one team dominant for at least three years!

About the Ferrari being dominant, that was not so serious.

Another error by Verstappen. He hit the barrier but don't know if the damage is minimal.

Too far off to be representative IMO. I don't think we can read anything into those times.

I would read more into the improvement of Force India, then i would into Ferrari not showing real pace in FP1.

Based on recent seasons, isn't this as close we get to a perfect Force India track?

Maybe someone did a max() instead of sum() for the total?

edit - that doesn't work for kimi though...

edit 2 - oh - its the most recent sting the total is for!
