Jeez, Vettel 2 thousandths off Hamilton and 3 thousandths quicker than Kimi. Talk about close!

Beautiful from Ricc. Vettel almost as fast as Mercs despite a scrappy lap. Let's see then - curious if Ferrari will have that big PU boost they sometimes only use on final runs.

I'm going to watch the onboard of this pole lap for years to come, that's an absolute beast of a lap from Ricciardo.

So when was the last time a driver topped the time sheets in every practice session, every qualy session, set fastest lap in the race and won the race?

It's on the cards this weekend.

wonder if he made a mistake in the last sector? It did look a bit messy out of the last corner but unsure if there was anything else.

Absolutely mega lap from Ricciardo.

looked like Ferrari and Mercedes had extra juice given S1 times from Vettel and Hamilton but in the end that Red Bull and Ricc was too good. Hamilton had a scrappy S3 and ran out of grip.

I was hoping Ricc would improve yet again on his last run but alas - but his reaction though!

"Yes. Cheers boys." .. but with such an authoritative calm and satisfaction.

RBR probably wish that every race weekend was at Monaco

Just a shame we don't have a direct comparison with Ricciardo's teammate. One also wonders if Ham did what he could with the car and inevitably lost grip or if he might have had a shot at getting close to Ricc's time and just messed it up in S3.

I think he might have got closer to Vettel, but Ricc was out of reach.

Damn, Kimi screwed it up once again :x He is going to miss the podium I guess. I think MV crash helped everyone as RBR was going to get 1-2.

Stroll probably was the worst driver, I did not watch full FP. But he was complaining on Thursday and today as well about something or the other. His rookie team mate has looked good.

Pretty happy to see Hamilton qualify 3rd in what looks to be the 3rd fastest car, damage limitation.

Those redbulls clearly are the king of downforce. You can pencil them in to be serious contenders in Hungary and Singapore as well. Amazing that after all these years since the blown diffusers are gone, Redbull still is the best in aero and downforce. Toto Wolff was so smart to never allow them to have a Merc engine. It would have been very problematic for Mercedes if that ever happened.
But yeah...shame that Max has squandered another golden opportunity. He is really having a down year. 6 crashes in 6 race weekends now? That is awful.
Congrats to Ricciardo for grabbing pole. A chance for him to get his 2016 win back.
Also felt that Lewis should have been on the front row, but for not the first time this weekend, the car fell apart under him in the final sector.

Fantastic lap from Dan Ric - on the money every session so far this weekend - he deserves this win given he was robbed by the team in 2016 - and has been the ultimate professional so far

Yeah it's a good result for him, could easily have been 5th or 6th.

Tomorrow's race won't be as straightforward. This track also has thrown surprise results in the past so excited for tomorrow!

Was there much difference between Ricciardo's laps in the first and third sectors? He did a purple middle on the 2nd lap.

The overall lap? I just wondered what was the difference in each sector because 1st and 3rd was both yellow.

The overall lap - still meant it was second fastest overall - haven't seen individual sector breakdowns

Lewis has a new press officer?

He has done the best he could. If he finishes where he starts it will be fine for World Championship

Is there any counter-strategy Red Bull can use for Max?

I don't think so as the hypersofts are capable of the going the whole race no problem

Yeah, I reckon. Pop a couple of Valium tablets in his bottle of Red Bull.

I wonder what the odds are on Verstappen causing a SC?

Do you mean though, that Max shouldn't fight for position as he is going to finish out of the points no matter what?

If i was God (!) i would want Max to create a SC as it may mean an unpredicted result so the people you expect to finish out of the points maybe finish 6th, 7th, 8th etc

I mean, make Monaco a show so crazy things happen. 1982, 1996, 2018? All the top drivers fall out and
the winner is an unknown warrior like er, Ericsson? Let him win a race (like Panis) so he has that on his CV so he goes to his grave happy (sorry bit morbid)

I'm sure it's not as simple as that?

Sure, but seeing as we as viewers are so out of control of what may happen we can / may as well speculate on what may happen to make the race memorable

I mean it is 1/21st of the season so what would make it stand out in the memory?

Beyond the races the big 'events' are what people remember

If you have a favourite, let's say their champiomship isn't adversly affected, let's have a grand prix where who-knows-who may come through and win
