What a mess.

The huge blue areas for 'Sport Pesa' really do not compliment the pink livery. They stick out so badly. Then throw in the magenta, the white and the silver and it's just awful.

Just horrible, it's the worst livery in history of F1, by far...

More colours than a Dulux paint chart!

Awful.

Maybe, but still they were not pink!

The last time in my life I have seen so ugly livery was like... 2 days ago when Williams revealed their livery xD

Fair enough. There was a pink Brabham before, and a pink Indy winner in the 50's, albeit not an F1 car exactly.

I don't mind the pink itself. It is certainly not as bad as some of the BAR liveries like the Earth one

Are they still sticking with Racing Point or changing it before Melbourne?

Anyways... that dark blue has no place on that car at all...

Ah, the legendary Honda Earth livery. None can hope to compete with such a lofty standard of ugliness.

1/10

Shame that they did not used the chance to get rid of the pink. The blue patch make it worse.

Looks more like a pram than a racing car.

And worst of all the tyres don't even match! They could have at least put ultrasofts on it !

I'm not against the pink... I think it gives a good 'uniqueness' to the team but the blue patch is horrific, the magenta and silver just complicate it even more.

A lot of people are hating it, but I'm going to come out as a surprise and say that this livery actually works really well for me. Sure, the colors aren't the best, but those are determined by sponsors. But particularly from the 3/4 side view (top picture), the lines are all sweeping and pointing forward, and it looks busy in an exciting way to me. It's bright, it's colorful, and it's covered in sponsors. It looks like a healthy racing car, rather than a poorly-executed attempt at minimalism like most of the modern liveries.

It's kind of ugly from the front, but from the side I actually like it a surprising amount.

I may have a soft spot for ugly things, but I kind of like it.

Also don't think a F1 team has done their reveal in Canada before

Proof, if needed, that graphic design is a profession that requires true craftmanship.
Or the job was done by a bad professional, or it was done by the child of the accountant to save a handful of pennies.

The blue would go well with the darker pink, but with the light pink and white its a bit too much.

If this year's wings look like snow ploughs, what do last years look like?

To each their own but personally i'm glad to be rid of those monstrosities.

I think it's the end plates that make these new wings look bad, and you only really see them from a side on view. They just look very "agricultural" to me, but probably wont notice by the end of the first race.

Except it won't work like that. Nobody is going to think 'SportPesa Racing .' and then eventually just 'SportPesa Racing' when they hear 'SportPesa Racing Point'. Similarly, the only place it has been stylised as 'SportPesa Racing .' is their logo. Everywhere else it is still 'SportPesa Racing Point'. And considering how infrequently teams are referred to by their title sponsor, they'll be Racing Point regardless of the title sponsor.

The colors of Racing Point's livery aren't the problem. Like Williams, it's the design, or lack thereof that's the issue. Pink and blue actually work quite well together, but you need to hire a qualified graphic designer to execute a proper design.

While you see monstrosities, some of us see amazing feats of engineering and interesting craftsmanship. The teeny wings of the Pre-2009 cars looked great from the profile side of the car, but from the front they were TINY and looked way out of proportion with the rest of the car.

I see this sort of comment made a lot. Since you work (or have worked) in the field, do you happen to know what F1 teams actually use for their livery designs? Do they hire a graphic design professional/firm, or do they have an in-house graphic artist? Either way, I have a hard time believing it's not someone qualified. People with high qualifications do s****y jobs every day of the year - just about every terrible logo or ad campaign out there was done by someone with qualifications.

I don't really see the problem with it. It's distinctive and certainly eye-catching, which I assume is what they were going for. I don't think it looks particularly ugly. Eye of the beholder, and all that

Didn't they owe a small amount of money to "hire a princess"?

Maybe that's who did the livery..

I guess that the main problem with the liveries these days is that the place of the sponsor is strictly defined, and there is no running away from it. There were some bad F1 liveries in the past because of the different sponsors buying their their places where the colors and shapes don't much, and therefore we have the best liveries those that are made of one big sponsor, such as Ligier Gitanes, JPS Lotus, Parmalat Brabham, Martini Brabham/Williams and such. For a good example, other sponsors had to follow the main black-gold coloring in JPS Lotuses and looks lie it was fine for them.

They have in-house people who are amazingly qualified painters, but that doesn’t mean they’re adept at design. Even still one of the biggest problems we designers face is politics from SALES!!! You see, sales people THINK they know WTF they’re talking about and push their agendas and when they’re met with resistance from marketing & design, they go over their heads and whine to people who will force the design team to adhere to the direction sales is dictating.

It’s been an internal WAR for decades on end that had led to crappy work like we often see these days and the lowering of wages for designers.

The design field in general has been in crisis for some time now because people THINK that just because they have a computer and some hokie software, they can design things and well enough to not justify paying a well schooled and well seasoned professional in order to produce the best possible work. No one goes to a lawyer and tells their story and upon hearing the attorney’s advice proceeds to advise them as to how they should approach it in court, and no one goes to see a doctor for an ailment and upon hearing the how the doctor plans to treat you, throws suggestions as to how to better treat you. They’ll both tell you to go fly a kite! YET, when it comes to design, EVERYONE has an opinion and “knows” what works best and generally these days, people would rather pay some unqualified schmuck $200 to do a mediocre job rather than pay a qualified professional $1500 to do a stellar job that will help increase revenue far more than the $200 person.

I’ve Been unemployed for a year now due to that very mentality. People would rather pay 4 inexperienced kids who don’t know and WILL NEVER KNOW what I know $35k each, rather than pay me $75k to do everything they could and far more at a professional level. They only see how much is going out, never realizing the value someone of my experience and skill brings it on the table.

This is a huge part of the problem as well.

I know Mercedes has a graphic design department as do McLaren, Ferrari, Red Bull/Toro Rosso and I know Sauber had one as well, not sure if that’s still the case though as Fiat Might he handling it now. But you can tell which teams do by the aesthetic and balance of their overall design, logo sizing and placement, and selection and implementation of color. Even ones some people don’t like have the tell take signs of having been developed by qualified professionals.
