Netflix has a ten part F1 series coming out on 8th March. The producer is the same as the one who produced Senna, which was very good so hopefully this is a good watch.

Was just about to post this.

Looks very interesting, perhaps we get to hear what Ricciardo really said after the clash in Baku!

I hope it's good… The trailer is... meh. Basically the trailer was just a lot of images us F1-fans have already seen last season in a ok produced clip with some standard comments. Then again, I hope I am wrong.

Judging by how one-sided the documentary on Senna was concerning the rivalry with Prost, I wouldn't get my hopes up too high.

I was thinking the same thing. It'll probably be well made, but if the Senna documentary is any indication they'll be going in with a specific angle to tell and will happily ignore anything that doesn't support that angle.

I know but here in the US anything F1 is so scarce that I don't much care if something is 1-sided because at least i get to enjoy something F1 related.

I think Liberty Media should really take a look at "Driving Ambition - A Season with Eddie Jordan" and produce something like this for every season because it is a wonderfully insightful look into F1 from a whole other perspective. It is to date one of my favorite F1 related films of all time.

No Merc or Ferrari in this series it seems, which is a shame.

That's extremely disappointing. Honestly, what will it take for the stake holders in F1 to see the bigger picture?

Surely you would've though there'd be something on paper somewhere that compels the teams to participate in activities promoting the sport.

Not a good look considering LM was behind the doco.

I think that was one of the unfortunate conditions that had to be met in order for the Senna family to approve that film to be made. I wouldn't hold it up as an example of what to expect here.

Only watched the first 2 episodes so far, but really enjoying it. I like how they've managed to get a different story for each episode which spotlights a different rivalry (and I love that Horner has 2 donkeys called Max and Daniel!).

Seems to be a really well made series.

I wonder whether they were aware of that before or after their extensive interview with Prost. But either way it means accepting censorship, which is a rather serious flaw.
But I like what I read about the series so far. I will probably see it at some point.

It would definitely be better with similar input from Mercedes and Ferrari, but i’ve watched four episodes so far and have really enjoyed it. It tells the story of the season well and gives a lot of insight into the characters that you don’t always see in their more guarded and less sweary media interviews. Will certainly watch the rest and hope they get all teams on board for future seasons.

I do like how Ferrari haven't taken part in the documentary side of it, but still have plenty of advertising with them using the Ferrari for the title shot each episode :D

I think the absence of Ferrari and Merc makes this much more Interesting. I already know loads about the goings on right at the sharp end. It's nice to shine a light on some of the people who get less attention.

Watched the whole season.
Gave good insights to the midfield like the Haas, Renault rivalry, Nico and Magnussen rivalry. We always knew there was a battle for 4th, but the series brought so much more to it.
Would have been nice to watch it as last season progressed as build up to the races. All we get to hear is the Merc and Ferrari battle which gets boring.
This is definitely something the F1 should learn from.

They've definitely portrayed the "tension" between Renault and Red Bull very well!

I've watched four episodes so far and have enjoyed it. Will probably watch the rest at some point this week.

I felt it was a bit too hollywood though...unnecessary sound effects just got annoying.

However, I enjoyed it, especially episode 4 like someone has said.
It's much better for the casual fan than a die hard fan I reckon.

I really enjoyed it and I hope we see something similar for 2019. I wasnt sure what to make of Mercedes and Ferrari not being involved, but I think it did the documentary-makers a favour - as they could focus on some of the less well known stories for the 2018 season.

The makers clearly had their favourites though, and - at times - it was a little one-sided as a result.

I never binge watch anything other than the sopranos and this is now the 2nd anything I’ve binge watched. I still have a few episodes left but work came a calling.
I have to say the whole Cyril Abiteboul Christian Horner relationship is really interesting and in the end Abiteboul signing Ricciardo was like the best Check Mate, stick that in yer pipe and smoke it moment and got the better of Horner. Really loved his smug look when he said 1 less driver aye?

Only have 2 episodes left to watch. It is very interesting. I enjoyed the whole Papa Stroll vs Claire Williams beef. Truly explained a lot.
Horner and Abiteboul was also a good watch, and yes Cyril did get the last laugh by snatching Ricciardo.
They are making it look like Ricciardo was the star while Max's story is not as well detailed.
Ocon vs Perez was also very well done, but again, Ocon seems to have gotten most of the coverage.

I'm on Episode 5 thus far and think it's seriously good. Very interesting and shows a completely different side of the sport. How much influence Alonso had at Macca is fascinating. My only gripe is that I don't think Perez or Verstappen were particularly well served. In fact they totally go in on Perez. Make it sounded like he was getting thrashed by Ocon and only kept because of the money.

I don't think they painted Ricciardo any better than Verstappen so much as they didn't over sensationalize Verstappen as sooooo many people love to do.
The reason for it materializes once they show how Albetiboul snidely lets Horner and Red Bull know they've been check mated.

In all fairness, they referred to Verstappen as the young phenom for Red Bull, but let it be known that Ricciardo is a proven commodity in F1 and provided a more in-depth look at Ricciardo as a whole for the sake of telling the complete story behind the man.

Look at how they covered the Austrian GP. All about Ricciardo and they made it look like he retired from the lead or a likely win. Not a single mention that Verstappen won.

A bit like Ocon's 3rd place on the grid in Spa getting covered extensively but Perez actually finished in 3rd on Baku. You wouldn't have known that watching this.

I think this has been a great series.

Yes the dedicated F1 fan is going to be a little frustrated by some of the narratives and the missing details, but at the same time I think we've got to see a lot more behind-the-scenes chat and goings on than we ever would have otherwise.

It's clear the point of this series is to try to bring some non-F1 fans to the sport. And I think that it must be doing a good job - my fiancé wasn't very interested in any motorsport in the past, but she is looking forward to sitting down and watching the next couple of episodes of this series, then asking me when the next race is... Good signs!

I've also got a couple of friends - one who hasn't followed F1 at all - and they are excited about this series and the sport in general.

In my opinion this series has done a great job of bringing F1 to the world.

Binge watching this today.

Its nice that its focused on red bull backwards. We get sooo much coverage and debate about merc/ferrari lewis/seb on the tv coverage its interesting to peek behind the curtains with the midfield.

Very good so far I think, Americanised whoosh sounds when the drive past things in t-cam view but it's okay.

Actually think it really worked out for the best that Merc and Ferrari weren't involved as we saw some very good, different and interesting narratives which might have been missed had there been more Merc/Ferrari focus which would probably have resulted in the series presenting the same repetitive story we've all heard

I think it lifts from various different broadcasters. All the sky/C4 commentators featured, i assumed the others were from America, possibly?

We didn’t have a commentary team last season. Just the Sky team.

I thought this might be the case. Some of the commentary is from broadcasts, but I'm sure a lot of it was recorded after the fact to make the stories more exciting.

Would have been more epic if they’d have had Murray Walker donthe voice over!

Can you imagine I’m his voice, and Sebastian Vettel has spun out! Oh my word!
And Lewis Hamilton takes the lead…
Daniel Ricciardo makes a sensational move down the inside and pulls it off! Just brilliant stuff!

I can always hear his voice in my head saying these things. The only other race commentator on his level is Paul Page in CART.

Agree & while there are 1 or 2 Australian commentators (Neil Crompton & Mike Raymond) who I think are, or in Mike's case we're, right up there internationally, Murray Walker & Paul Page are certainly the standard bearers for international motor sport commentary. Noone else even comes close to those 2 gentlemen.

My thoughts on the series:

* I feel the series was only made better by the absence of Ferrari & Merc

* Race commentary sound bites seemed contrived, computer gamish & poorly done

* Gunther Steiner was the star of the show

* Understandable concentration on the RB, Renault, Ricciardo saga as they were the hot topics in 2018

* Very sad to see the struggles of Williams in general & Claire Williams in particular

Overall was great to watch a bare bones look into the inside of the sport. I hope it's the first of many.

The commentary often just seems to fit in a bit too well into the narrative of the series...

I'm not sure, but I think at least some of the extra commentary is done by the Formula 2 lead commentator. If so, it's definitely post commentary.

I'm not sure, but I think at least some of the extra commentary is done by the Formula 2 lead commentator. If so, it's definitely post commentary.

Almost all the commentary has been done in post.
