It will be harder than it needs to be for Verstappen to catch Hamilton, because Gasly isn't able to take points off Lewis. Maybe if Red Bull get someone competent in that car after the break then it increases Max's chances.

True. Gasly is so far behind that he can rarely be of use. He's not very quick and I grossly overestimated his ability before the season and just how slow Hartley was.

Before we start rubbing our hands in anticipation, keep in mind that Hungary was always going to be a RBR track. If they can challenge Mercedes in Spa, then it's game on.

Coming into the weekend though, wasn't it expected that Merc would be the fastest here? Red bull their closest challenger but I'm surprised Merc weren't comfortably quicker.

Wow, end of thread now. That 12 point swing between Max and Lewis seals it and with Valteri's meager points return from the last two races and his poor racecraft under pressure, it turns out that there was no main challenger for Lewis this season.

Lewis probably had the best race pace in Hungary, but also he had the faster car. I thought the cars would be equal in the race, but they probably weren't.

That was an impressive display of Force from Mercedes and Hamilton.

The main challenger for the 2019 Championships is some sort of bizarre Mercedes implosion.

Which we know won't happen because it hasn't for the last five seasons before this one.

Game over in both the WDC and WCC, and we still have nine races to go. Granted the WCC was probably over about three races ago, but the WDC was still slightly open had Max won today, but not now.

The championship is now over. +62 points to Bottas and +69 to Verstappen. Bottas' late spin in Germany and double lock up and bad luck today has ended the remote chance of a title fight.

This circuit is right up Red Bull's alley on paper and Mercedes were still quicker while Ferrari were nowhere. Cant see any way for anyone but Bottas to challenge this year, and we all know that's not happening.

I voted for Bottas but a race later I'm leaning more towards Verstappen now, I thought Mercedes would dominate on this track but it didn't happen.

I think Bottas relies heavily on his qualifying but the last 2 races he's been out qualified by Verstappen, once he doesn't qualify well then the race pace becomes an issue.

Like Black flag said above this, if any track, was a Red Bull track and since even here Max couldn't beat Lewis he probably won't do it anywhere else either.

Also, qualifying 2 tenths faster than Lewis isn't "qualifying well"?

I mean relative to the field not just Hamilton, Hamilton has the speed in the race to make up for a poor qualifying but not Bottas, I think perhaps we have to judge that Verstappen out qualified Bottas in a slower car?
