Agreed. Again, all I can say is keep reporting them. The rules are clear, they're repeated in my signature and yet people still seem to do it.

For anyone wondering how to handle a troll, please remember there is a report button there. That is somewhere you can call someone a troll to your heart's content - where it won't derail a thread.

Can you add "pretending to be mod" or being "would-be moderator" there? I think it's very rude when regular users (not moderators) tell other users that they shouldn't do something or are against the rules.

Will do. I'm fighting the urge to simply put "being a dick" in there as well after some of the weekend's posts.

The comments section is now back up so thank you very much. Hopefully the forum will settle down now :D

Maybe we need a section just for the Vettel/Webber incident on the forum if we are going to get this many threads on the matter?

Image

Rule 4 states:
As a courtesy to others multiple threads on the same topic should not be created. If another thread exists on the first 2 pages of the forum you should use it. Duplicate threads will be deleted and users who consistently indulge in such behaviour may be banned.

While it can be argued that these posts are discussing a slightly different angle on the situation many of them are very similar and the topic could have been brought up in an existing thread. Indeed, when I came to post my thoughts on the matter I could have justified what I was wanting to say as being a new thread but instead posted it in one of the existing threads.

Could rule 4 be added to say something along the lines of if a poster wants to comment on something that is happening if there is already an ongoing thread about it to try and post it in there.

Looking at this very specific example, the "Mark is too slow get him out of the way" thread started out during the race about that specific comment, however as the event unfolded became the ongoing thread. To add to this, it was merged (with I totally agree with) two other threads started about the Vettel incident. It's possible that because the title of the thread as it appeared in the forum led people to believe it was just discussing that specific radio message rather than the entire situation which is why new threads got started. Maybe, the next time there is an incident like this the thread that things get merged into, or becomes the main thread of discussion, should get renamed (so in this case the thread could have been renamed "Vettel/Webber incident at Malaysia 2013" or something like that.

"Vettel/Webber - Could Horner have ordered Seb to drop the place" / "Should Vettel be sat out a race" / "Vettel lying" threads are all essentially different sides of the same coin, relating to the discipline structure within Red Bull and Vettel's attitude to the team.

"In total support of Vettel" - surely this is just a counterpoint to the existing Uberdiscussion going on in other threads?

"What if Vettel was to beat Webber by 7 points" - again, just a continuation of the general discussion.

I'm not sayng all these things should be merged into a single thread - but if we can start justifying a slightly different angle on a topic as warranting an entirely new thread we are going to need a much bigger forum.

I appreciate that this incident unfolded and got out of control while the race was going on when obviously the mods are watching the race like the rest of us. However, maybe if when big incident happens a moderator could merge the various threads that revolve around the central theme and rename it to "XYZ Incident (Official thread)" or something like that, rule 4could then have a clause to state "if a moderator has created an official thread on an ongoing incident, try to post your comments in there unless what you are posting truly merits a unique thread"

IMO all the Vettel Webber threads should be merged because although they were started with a particular situation in mind, they have all descended to the same discussion at the end. I mean Ive literally forgotten where I have posted my message earlier As there are so many.

Merging all now, I was letting some of the more different titles last seperately but as you say they've all gone the same way.

Thanks. Can I suggest "The Vettel/Webber Malaysia Incident Discussion Omni-Uber-Gigathread" as the new title? ;)

I think I've got them all in one now. I've probably missed a hundred or so, but I've done the obvious ones.

I did consider merging the "...no longer a racing driver" quote thread, but that does have some merit outside of the incident.

Hi Mods

I'm getting pretty fed up with people crying "basher" / "baiter" or claiming I have an agenda towards a drier just because I post something they don't agree with or like what they're reading

There is one forum member at the moment who is putting this about me in a few different threads. I don't want to report her because she is a good member but she's starting to get personal now calling me numpty amongst other insulting things

If you don't want to report her there's nothing we can do.

Also check your PMs so you may be able to avoid it happening in the future.

Something along the lines of keeping search engine databases up to date. They don't do anything to the forum.

What? We gotta start wearing underwear while posting on this forum??

That could be a deal breaker

Was going through the main site, I found this "feedback" on the "Your Says are back" News Story. This ones properly funny as it sounds like a child pleading. The writers called "killitwithfire" and he say....
Quote:
The PF1 forum is horrible!!! I can't have a dig at button and mclaren without getting the thread locked or banned!! Its like north korea!! Why do you encourage us to go there!! Everyone is so sensitive and butthurt. I'm so happy the comments section is back

Couldnt stop laughing at it...

Only one complaint in four pages, and looking through our logs I'm not even sure who that is. I'm a little surprised it's not been taken down given it potentially makes the forum look bad, but to be honest I'm happy with the community we have here.

For the record, I do know some of you believe we are heavy-handed: we only get like that when there are a lot of people doing the exact same things wrong. In the aftermath of Sepang we were working flat out and I concede at least my temper got a bit frayed as well. This did result in less carefully phrased messages being sent to a number of members, both due to said temper and lack of time to carefully flesh out a reply. For that I apologise.

We obviously don't know what you said, but I find a good old cut and paste message of anger and to 'shut the hell up and don't argue, we're not discussing this any more' never goes amiss in those situations.

Cut and paste jobs never quite cut it though. People ask specific questions in this thread for example, make specific points and need a more personal response. It's a similar thing with warnings, as each breach of the rules, no matter how similar the myriad of others - especially in the past few days! - still broke them in a slightly different way.
