Froze, I believe Mod_Yellow has PM'd you in this regard.

As for the locked thread, I believe action was taken as a similar question was asked very recently. Orange simply summarised the answer into a single post.

Yes, we have a swear filter now. No, it doesn't change coffin to 'place of rest'.

That said, I'm glad you cleared up the confusion with the IP crossover, and I admit error on that one.

Look in the kimi thread and you will find one of your posts deleted. It is for that which you were banned.

Incidentally, the member who quoted the image also names you as the original poster of it, confirming to me that we are not mistaken.

You mods do realize you're contradicting each other?

There are 2 pages we edited when we had a late report. Some were deleted but most were only edited. I thought Froze was in the latter of these.

Still waiting for the proof here. Not gonna happen? Oh, too bad then.

Well, in the end, it's not my shame, because I know what I have done and what I haven't and I stand 100% behind in what I told you guys in the email discussion. To sum this whole thing in one sentence in my point of view: I have never even seen these images that you are accusing me to be the original poster of. I really don't know what else to tell you. All I can say is that I'm very disappointed at how poorly this matter has been handled.

Actually, I couldn't care less anymore and I'm done wasting my time with this issue or this forum. Hence I'm going awol. To all fellow posters, thanks for all the discussions we had. To the mods, not so much.

Another quality poster/member gone because of mods.
And people wonder why the forum is going downhill.

To be fair, I feel a lot freer than I felt under the previous team, who had a habit of banning anyone who disagreed with them. So they made a poor call in one case. Who hasn't?

I moderate elsewhere and as I've said before, I don't envy anyone the job here at all. At least on smaller boards it's possible to please everyone.

How many times do the Mods have to say that they only intervene upon request? And in this instance the breach of rules was also illegal.

Maybe they made a mistake, it happens, but no doubt there was rush to fix things and some evidence is gone forever. A temporary ban can not be undone after the event anyway.

Doesn't matter how or why it happened.
All I know is that 5 of the people I respected most on this forum are now gone due to some instances with the moderators.
And apparently people report stuff way too much.
Perhaps that's the real problem.

I don't doubt that there is an element of 'how dare they say my driver isn't godlike' when some people report things.
There are far too many people who are fans of drivers only, not even fans of the sport, and who continuously display a complete ignorance of some of the basic rules or history of the sport, and of the forum. Unfortunately there is little which can be done to effectively stop these users.

I don't know why NCW left for example, the Raikkonen thread can be the best place on the net for news about him, but it so frequently degenerates into an inane IM chat and not what I feel to be a real forum that I often feel it's not worth the brain ache opening it. Then the main forum is so often a 'my dad's stronger than your dad' type thing and the same old subjects recycling over and over ad infinitum.

It's no surprise that people give up and leave, but this is not the fault of the Mods, they do a good job. It's the user group as a whole that are the problem, and it will only change by intelligent users and posts being more active. And the reason that the Mods are so active compared to other forums (in my experience) is the competitive nature of the subject of this forum and the sport.

Good post
I suppose it's more down to the users, and it comes down on the mods because they're the ones who have to take action.

I feel the mods are basing their decisions too much on reports. It's almost as if I reported this feedback thread you'd lock it and ban yourselves for creating it!

A report can only draw the moderator's attention to a post. It's then at their discretion whether and/or how to take action.

Moderators are anonymous. They're under little or no pressure to accommodate reports. Consider as well the delusional tendencies of your typical fanboy: are they likely to shy away from reporting a blasphemous message for fear of embarrassing their cause? Hardly. You can be fairly confident then that moderators receive their fair share of shrill and prejudiced reports, and I would be astonished if they are not wise to the fact.

'The real problem' is rampant, unchecked fanboyism. And let's not forget it.

Thanks Guia, that saves me some of what I was going to write here.

We were going to deal with this via PM but it's escalated beyond that. We are aware we made a mistake in taking action against froze, and for that we apologise. Obviously it is his choice whether he remains on the forum or not, but I hope he does.

We are reviewing our policy for dealing with reports again, and are working to ensure this sort of mistake is not repeated.

Why do people have to flounce out of here so publicly?

I think the mods have been doing fine and there was a simple explanation as to why you can't get your evidence froze, the mod deleted the post so it is lost. They can't get it back. That isn't the mod's fault.

Anyway, I say  to the mods. They do a difficult job and I'm sure it hasn't been made any easier with the amount of sheer stupidity that's been on the forum as of late and I count that bloody Kimi video in that.

the thing is, though, Froze is claiming it's a case of mistaken identity and it's somewhat absurd that he now can't clear his name because the evidence has been deleted through no fault of his.

I support the job the mods are doing but it seems to me that they have a duty to retain evidence resulting in a member ban for a certain period of time, if only to ensure that justice has been done and that situations like this don't arise. Surely they have the ability to dump posts (or even screenshots) somewhere for x days/week/months or at least until the accused has had a chance to respond to their sentence?

As I said, policy is being reviewed. Including exactly that.

I'm over the ban, and back to my normal self.
But, I would just like to say that it was pretty poor of the mods to get Froze and F1nsider mixed up with each other just because they had similar avatars.
That is all :)

May I ask what the moderating team's definition is of a troll and trolling?

I've always regarded a troll as someone who posts things just to wind people up and trolling as doing that, which can be a single one line post or even a longer one that appears detailed and articulate.

However, a lot of the problem posts at the moment are coming from people who genuinely believe what they are saying, but approach that from a very immature perspective.

I think there is some confusion about that.

Has this forum been experiencing some technical errors, or was it just me that was unable to access it?

We define it as those trying to wind people up, but some comments do get caught in the crossfire. While this is annoying for the member who posted it, it does prevent a ten-page argument over something silly.

As for the glitch earlier - can anyone tell me what happened? I missed it.

Trying to access any of the forum pages returned an error that said words to the effect of 'view limit exceeded unless you are a superuser'. From what I could tell it lasted for 5-10 minutes.

Likely the techies poking about with a glitch I found in the ACP the other day then. It would help if I could warn members about things like this!

I thought it lasted longer since when I eventually got through the previous post in the forum had been made almost an hour earlier... but it may just have been quiet.

I think there is some seriously wrong with this forum. Try searching for your old posts. The posts didn't go anywhere, they just aren't showing in search results.

Ouch. OK, I'll get onto the techies now.

EDIT: That said, I can see all yours in a search.

Bonus points for the techies tpday, that was a quick reply!

Apparently the search function needed re-indexing this morning, hence the blip some members experienced, and now the search issue as highlighted by dizlexik. If it goes wrong again, be warned the forum may be down for longer to allow the techies to fix things.

I don't think the search has ever worked.

I just tried looking for the Susie wolff thread. Searched Wolff as you would and it brought up a post from March. Despite there being a thread last week

There have been both bans and warnings, depending on the members' records.

Have a look in your control panel, there should be a setting about what emails you get somewhere.

PF1, you may benefit by re-evaluating the effect of popping up a video-with-audio when your readers come to the site.

Some of us are accessing the 'net via a mobile service that may charge by the megabyte. The last thing we want is unsolicited video popping up.

Is that on the forum or the main site? If the latter I can promise nothing beyond contacting the editor.

Yes, we have a swear filter now. No, it doesn't change coffin to 'place of rest'.

It's the main site, don't know about other readers but that's were I always start, then select forums from there. Guess I should be going straight to forum.planet-f1.com instead of planetf1.com, but isn't it in the interests of the business (is it the same business?) to have people come in through the front door and see the latest articles? rather than getting out of the habit of visiting the main site?

The forum is the main draw for me, otherwise I'd probably go to Autosport more for news, so they're probably increasing exposure of the main site as long as people are coming there as the gateway to the forum.

But now that there's an annoying video, I'll start going to the forum directly and avoiding the main site (hello, Autosport). Autosport also has a video but there's a way to disable it, and it's to the side, not a pop-up. The PF1 video lets to arrive and try to start looking at the main page, then it fades that out (a bit slowly) and then zooms in a video, which you can't close for several seconds. Than that zooms out and the main page fades back in slowly. It's just annoying, when you just wanted to get a quick look at any new headlines and then hop over to the forum to check for any interesting new posts.

Anyway that's my view and opinion, but it's their site.
