============End of Update============

If you are wondering what the hell this is about, please open up the spoilers below:

Back in 2009 there was a forumer called, kimilandia, that came up with this simple prediction competition and which was pretty simple, fun and free!:

This game tests your abilities to predict which teams will do well this season, and your judgement between teammates. To enter, all you need to do is to choose your stable of drivers for the 2012 season before the season starts on 16th March 0130 GMT, and then watch to see how they do. It does not require any more time or effort than that.

Here's the catchy part - you buy drivers for a price based on their 2011 season performance (or the driver(s) they have replaced), and then accumulate the number of points they get in 2012.

There are a few rules:
1) Maximum total expenditure 500 points (prices are below)
2) Only one driver per team.
3) Minimum driver cost capped at 5 points.
4) If a driver is taken off the grid, for whatever reason, during the season you accumulate the points of his replacement.
5) All entries have to be submitted before the first practice of the first GP of the season.
6) Enter by posting your picks in this thread, i.e: f1madman - Webber, Hamilton, Ricciardo (costs 500)

You can check your progress in this googledoc and see what others have chosen:
https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/ccc ... ZMVE#gid=1

I actually remember the original version of this, simply because I'm 90% sure I won (or, at the very least, finished top 3). I seem to recall a surprising amount of people avoided picking either Brawn driver, even in spite of the fact they were dirt cheap. Ferrari/McLaren were attractive options and people went for big names instead, and then both had difficult seasons.

Unless Hispania or Marussia turn up and "do a Brawn' (, I know) I get the impression it'll be a little harder this time around!

Excellent picks but might I suggest cinthorc and Leen, pick slightly different from each other if you want actually want to beat one another :P

Ooh Jenson's Understeer, I can't remember who won but I do remember I mucked up all kinds of fantasy leagues/prediction competitions as I believed Brawn were running on fumes to get sponsors during testing.

dbfinch.

As for my team this year:

Webber
Rosberg
Raikkonen
Hulkenberg
Kobayashi
Ricciardo
Maldonado
Kovalainen
De La Rosa
Glock

Cost: 490

If either of the last two score a point, I'll be absolutely astonished.

Never been a fan of these to be honest, the arbitrary costs make it a bit weird, I know it's the same for everyone but it just feels a bit artificial somehow. I much prefer the Pick 10 competition that spec ran last year, if he doesn't start it back up I think I might have to (A)

Big fan of stuff like this, though I do hope Voluntary or Spec does do the Pick 10 competition again too.
Does anyone else do 'My Racing Career'?

Hey bourbon, I'm afraid Senna and Maldonado are in the same team so you can't have both of them.

Jenson's Understeer, you're right you did win the last competition.

Massa
Schumacher
Di Resta
Kobayashi
Ricciardo

Am I the only one who found myself going for some drivers I don't necessarily support?

Here's the catchy part - you buy drivers for a price based on their 2011 season performance (or the driver(s) they have replaced), and then accumulate the number of points they get in 2012.

Btw there are a couple of picks without a username in the spreadsheet. If you made a pick after Leen and bourbon, could you check you've put your name next to your choices please.

Sorry but that cost system cannot be taken seriously.

So if hypothetically Vergne would have replaced Webber for the 2012 season he would cost 258 points??
And Petrov gets only 5 cost because he moved to Caterham?

I think it's as good a system as any. Do you think Vergne should have been free of charge?

This is a cool idea. My pics were Hamilton, Massa, Schumacher, Raikkonen, Hulkenberg. Hoping Hammy and Massa crash less with each other...
