For all things Vergne. Remember we will be stricter on rule enforcement in official threads.

Don't know what to think about him, maybe a future RedBull driver who knows

Solid performances so far, although him finishing ahead of Dan seems to be more with Dan screwing up than Vergne outdriving him.

Not sure what to make of him so far, but doing OK I guess.

Here's an abbreviated table of his pre F1 CV - full series results only:

2007: Formula Campus Renault = 1st
2008: Fomula Renault Eurocup = 6th
2009: Fomula Renault Eurocup = 2nd
2010: British Formula 3 = 1st
2011: Formula Renault 3.5 = 2nd

Not bad...

Only 5 posts? No liking for JEV?

Look at these stats courtesy of Covalent. I assume they make reference to Chinese GP 2013:

Here are also the stats on how many times each driver has passed another driver:
1. Kimi Räikkönen 14
1. Jean-Eric Vergne 14
3. Romain Grosjean
3. Daniel Ricciardo 11
5. Sebastian Vettel 10
6. Fernando Alonso 9
6. Mark Webber 9
8. Lewis Hamilton 8
8. Felipe Massa 8
8. Nico Hülkenberg 8
11. Valtteri Bottas 6
12. Paul di Resta 5
13. Nico Rosberg 4
13. Sergio Perez 4
13. Pastor Maldonado 4
13. Esteban Gutierrez 4
13. Charles Pic 4
18. Jenson Button 2
18. Jules Bianchi 2
18. Max Chilton 2
21. Adrian Sutil 1
21. Giedo van der Garde 1

Not bad eh...

He is more aggressive than DR, but the huge points finish for DR will help him look good for the Red Bull seat.

I really like JEV. He's got style and a certain x factor. Brilliant in the wet. Just needs to deal better with the pressure of quali, and show that raw pace he has. I think Daniel is beating him mentally at the moment, and with such fine margins separating them it could be enough. People underestimate Ricciardo's grit, he has bad luck but always bounces back well.

A fine driver and one I very much enjoy following. At times I have no idea who is going to come out in-front and Vergne has a strange ability to come from well down the order and steal that final points position.

Another supporter here; he lacks some luck to convert his speed into result. Looks quite aggressive, and I expect some stronger results in future.

JEV faster than DR on practice 1 and practice 2.

Quite a bit of bad luck this season, but today was completely free of anything like that - and there's the result, 8 points! Two point finishes in a row (and they're 8th and 6th!), pretty comfortably beating his teammate in the process, especially in Montréal. Is it possible he's upped his qualifying and gets better results with his race pace, that has constantly been rather impressive? Probably a few more races needed to judge that.

This is the Vergne I thought I'd see when he entered F1. I think both Vergne and Ricciardo are deserving of good F1 seats, but gut says Vergne is the better overall package. Just keep that quali sorted out Jev!

Great race by Vergne today, goes about his business quietly and has responded to the 'Ricciardo to Red Bull' media stories very well.

6th place, a result that Buemi nor Alguersuari managed to do. I think Vergne is indeed overall better racer than Ricciardo.

Certainly one of the more interesting team mate battles of the year. After Ricciado was a second up through the practice sessions I thought it was his weekend but Vernge more than made up for it when it counted. This car is certainly quick when they find the right set up.

I was suprised with the overall points gap since they started in F1 between him and Ricciardo! With the way everyone says DR has the best chance of the two for a Red Bull seat, JEV has way more points. Also is 6th the best result of the two at TR? I think it was DR's 7th before

I'm having a hard time judging the STR drivers as I feel I don't have a proper knowledge of how capable that car really is... it could well be that the STR is actually kind of a dog and both drivers are doing a great job or that the other way round...

Great race by JEV. This is my favourite teammate battle of the year with Lewis and Nico R.

Awesome weekend by JEV. I too don't get the Ricciardo hype, JEV has always looked the most impressive to me. He's a bit Kobayashi-esque, he qualifies fairly averagely and gets his points by fighting through the field. Good entertainment, generally clean fights and his results show. He had 4 8th placed finishes last year compared to Ricciardo's collection of 9ths and 10ths. This year the 6th place finish catapults him way ahead of Ricciardo and given the status of the car I can't really see that being assailed.

He has the black T-bar, ahead on points throughout both seasons yet Ricciardo still gets all the acclaim. Poor guy.

Something was off for Dan this race, sounds like he was fighting the car. But anyway JEV looked fantastic. A few more drives like this and he will be challenging Kimi for that seat.

Same for me, i've been claiming since last year that Jev was the better of the two {despite Jev being inferior in qualifying last year}, but the forumers generally claimed that Ricciardo was unquestionably the better driver.

I would like to see this guy in a Force India next year. Or maybe the Lotus. They need a consistent driver as opposed to Grosjean

Blimey. Look how quickly two races can change opinions.

I hold both drivers in high esteem, but I wouldn't suggest calling one vastly better until at least the end of the season. They've both had their ups and downs, JEV early in the year and Dan the last couple of races, and they'll only get better as the season progresses. It should be excitingly closer between the two.

Agreed not one is miles ahead of the other. JEV hasn't shone much up till recently. Its definitely my favorite inter team battle. They both seem to be genuinely happy when the other performs well which cannot be said for many drivers in F1. I hope they both get decent midfield seats next year if Torro Rosso decide they are keeping with their '2 years and your out' policy

Add me to that as well, Jean Eric just seems to have better race craft while Ricciardo qualifies well but hasn't (and isn't) being JEV on race day. Malaysia last year was when he caught my eye and I think he has been impressive since give or take a few races.
