A driver who I have really started to become a fan of in the past year! A bit wild and unlucky at times, but so far this season has shown great race pace, especially in Melbourne & Bahrain.

Agree, he received a lot of negative vibes due to collision with Hamilton at Spa, but else than that, seems like a perspective driver with a special skill for street racetracks. I expect good result from him in Monaco, Canada and Abu Dhabi.

I hope he can develop into a Montoya-like driver. We need a Montoya-type character on the track.

I had to laugh at the Chinese race when I think it was Di Resta was about to pass him, Brundle was commenting on the move and he said what sounded like "and Di Resta fancies himself a bit of Pasta"

Hated hm last year, but this year he has sown amazing pace. Just a bit short on luck. Plus he brings
in money which will help to keep the best team on the grid going.

Go on Williams!

Maldanado has shown great race pace in every race so far imo

I don't think the fact he is currently behind Senna is representative of his skills at all, lost a 6th and 10th in first 2 races on the last lap and looked like scraping into the points in Bahrain had it not been for his puncture

To be fair losing a 6th was entirely his fault so you can't really count that as lost points.

Not a massive fan of Pastor but he has been more impressive this year. One has to wonder how he'd fare against a better teammate though...

I intend to put a bet on him for the win, he flew last year there so imagine what he can do in a competitive car!

Said before, but, this Williams result shows how GREAT the Renault engine is and how BAD the Cosworth engine is.

Fantastic performance from Maldonado there!

If Lewis has stopped out on track to ensure there is fuel left over I will not be happy. There really needs to be a rule stating that you MUST be able to make it back to the pits under the car's own steam.

Can't say I agree. The Williams last year was just terrible overall. If you chucked the Cosworth in this year's car it would probably be slower sure, but not as bad as it was last year.

It doesn't seem to have given Caterham that much of a benefit, for example.

Not sure. Hopefully. Half a second when the rest of the field is so close? I know he's one of the quickest drivers out there, but still...

Maldanado can win tomorrow, race pace was very close to Ham's in practice

I knew Williams might have a big result coming soon, but possibly not this BIG

Like somebody else said maybe another Montoya, I like the guy and good luck to him in the race he doesnt look like one of the drivers who turns up just to collect his wages... not sure he actually gets paid anyway :)

Or what?

Come on, Button at Monaco in 2009 and Hamilton at Canada was so cool.

"Not bad for a pay driver" :-P :-P

I'm so happy for Maldonado, he got a lot of stick from people especially Hulkenberg fans for obvious reasons. But he showed how good he was in GP2 and after a full season in F1 he has really found his form. I just hope he keeps his cool and keeps it on the track!

Anyone notice how nervous he was at the post qualifying interviews. He couldn't stop fidgeting while he was waiting his turn. Big day tomorrow.

What a drive by Pastor. No mistakes, No lockups at all like earlier this year. Perfect tyre management.
He stepped it up big time and won in style.

As someone who really disliked MAL last year, he's been great this year. I dont think he even had so much as a poor corner today, simply flawless race.

Absolute heart warming victory. He did what Sergio couldn't and beat Fernando. Might cost him a Ferrari seat :)

Congrats to Pastor, the car was obviously good but it was very good drive. Consider the pressure: a hungry Alonso on your tail at his home GP, driving for a much loved team that hasn't won for years, never had a pit-stop-in-hand kind of lead, teammate was out so all teams points on his shoulders, some fairly negative perceptions of your ability, couple of recent missed opportunities, and your boss's birthday! Good drive, and great result for Sir Frank and the crew.

Well Well Well. I suppose it had to happen, I actually signed up to the Forum. I had to really just to tell you where i was watching the race. Bar/restaurant in Vitoria Brazil with a load of hugely passionate Brazilians urging on Massa and Senna and me the token Brit with his Venezuelan wife. I'm a life long supporter of Frank and his team (although not always agreed with him on his driver philosophy, a point which I think he would concede with hind sight) and my wife, supporter of everything from Venezuela Chavista or not.

We were already over the moon with a maldonado/Williams pole, and thought he'd be wise and try to hang on for a podium which would have been great but the drive he put in was nothing short of perfect. Pulled in Alonso and took out his tyres! what maturity and thinking

We screamed when he crossed the line and the Brazilians were great, they soon understood our connections and many happy hours followed discussing everything F1 with lots of Cervaja's and cuba libre's. Top day all round.

Just had to say though, never seen a paying driver this good or this determined, I bet a lot of people are sitting up taking notice now.

I think that was Hamilton. Terrific performance from Maldonado nonetheless.

Lucky you!

It was a great performance from the Pastor.

Got this from Williams on FB:
iWITNESS: Pastor wasn’t the only one celebrating after his win in Barcelona. Seventy percent of Venezuela’s population watched the race on television and the following day was declared a public holiday in his home city of Maracay. The mayor of the city has since spoken to Pastor and told him that no-one is planning to go to work next Monday…

:D

Let himself down this weekend (if deliberate), but was he fastest in Q2?
