At Fiorano racetrack, Ferrari tested the white colored 312T4 in 1979, and Villeneuve was wearing Simpson Bandit helmet! Rare as it gets!

Looks as if the color had been ground off with sandpaper.

This is Maria De Villota, who lost her eye in the testing with Marrusia last year. She revealed the helmet she was wearing, you can see the damage that resulted to her losing her right eye

I'm wondering if at least part of the damage in the helmet is caused by the rescue team cutting it open?

The photo is from the 1979 Belgian Grand Prix and it's the Alfa Romeo 177 - their first Formula One car to compete since 1951. Though he qualified 14th of 24, a collision with Elio de Angelis on lap 21 sent both out of the race. The 177 only made one more appearance in Formula One, that year's French Grand Prix. Again, Giacomelli was only fast enough for a mid-order qualifying place and finished five laps down at the chequered flag.

Yes, I didn't think about this. But seeing that is in the right side of the helmet it makes me think that it most probably isn't. Quite scary either way

To be fair, if HRT had done that, we'd be impressed.

Are you sure? I recon if HRT won every race by 15 laps some people on here would still be saying they don't deserve to be on the grid.

Nice! I'd also like a 0-100 kph or a typical lap time difference over a track (which would be impossible, but just to show the difference in speed).

Indycar has best speed/money ratio.

Nope, WRC would be that.

Maybe it's me but I'm finding it hard to correlate her losing her eye yet the visor is virually untouched? Wouldn't her face have been more susceptible to injury judging by the helmet damage?

The visor looks slightly lifted, plus the line of the eyes sits pretty low if I'm not mistaken.

It's an older pic, but see how low Seb's eyes are on this helmet:

Good point - plus with the force of the impact potentially tilting the head backwards I can now see it more clearly

That would explain why she lost her right eye...

Am i the only one who read news a lot when she crashed, but couldn't recognise her in the pic? :P I felt real stupid about it.

I'd probably say drag racing. Which of course is why top speed comparisons don't mean much out of context.
