Is Verizon the same as Vodafone in the States? All "Vodafone" on the driver and car had changed to Verizon in Austin. Stupid question? Still a question. Mod, lock if you want.

They have merged or are part of a joint venture, so they're two companies that share the common goal of providing communications. It's just that Vodafone serves Europe and Verizon serves the USA. I imagine Vodafone changed their livery to a Verizon one to appeal to the American audience.

I've seen Verizon sponsoring on McLaren in Canada before as well.
Verizon is the same as Vodafone in the respect that they provide similar services.
Verizon is the best provider in the US for use within the US.
But they use CDMA networks, so you can't use your phone abroad.
They usually don't have the best phones (ie. iPhone was originally AT&T only, as is the new Nokia Lumia 920)

Vodafone owns a controlling stake (45%) of Verizon.

Verizon and Vodafone are most certainly not the same company. They do share ownership in several subsidiaries, one of which is Verizon Wireless.

Verizon is a "baby Bell" that was a product of the breakup of the old AT&T into regional telecommunication companies. At that time it was known as Bell Atlantic.

I believe that you mean "for all intents and purposes"

They own 45% of Verizon Wireless. Verizon Communications owns 55% of Verizon Wireless and therefore the controlling stake. But obviously own enough of it to make changing the branding on the cars worth their while.
