Was just about to make the same thread, mainly because I'm interested in the reasoning for Vettel having to modify his helmet. Supposedly it's because Bernie doesn't want there to be advertising on the top of the helmet ("Gives you wings") but then what about "Head and Shoulders" on Senna's helmet, and "TOTAL" on Grosjean's helmet, just to name a few. Is there a difference. I'd love to know, if someone would kindly explain.

Yep, posted it about half an hour ago in the podium interviews topic.

Hamilton's for swearing, Vettel's for sponsorship on the top (not allowed).

I now await all the Hamilton fans who criticised Seb for swearing on the podium to give Lewis similar criticism.

And for all the Vettel fans who defended Seb to now defend Hamilton? :-P

Good point. Bernie?

Not the smartest thing to do, but how many people were watching the podium interview vs how many noticed Lewis' new helmet, didn't attribute it to his surname and looked it up?

Completely different circumstances I feel. Vettel actually swore, and so was direct. Hamilton donned an acronym, something that was indirect, an implication as such, and was never actually proven to mean what is suggested. He hasn't done anything wrong. At this point, he only has to remove "H.A.M" based on speculation by the FIA.

(note: I'm not a Hamilton or Vettel fan...or a Kimi one for that matter - so dont start with the fanboy crap in your reply please)

Here's how I see it:

- Vettel actually swore on camera to millions of people.
- 90+% of viewers would have thought 'H.A.M' on 'HAMiltons helmet, was meant to mean HAM as in Hamilton. I for one had no idea that it was street slang.

So whilst Hamilton is swearing, only people who are familiar with street slang are going to know, and those people really wont care.

Sorry, but for me Vettel's childish little 1up on Kimi was still a lot more pathetic.

That's what I thought, but I swear I saw him back to his old style helmet in FP3 and Qualifying.

What about us Hamilton fans that defended Vettel? Not all of us have the minds of 4 year-olds, you know.

By that logic:

Kimi and Vettel shouldn't have sworn on the podium - give them 2 race bans.

Who cares. So few people will ever notice, compared to a podium presentation.

I couldn't care less whether Vettel swore on the podium...it's just that it was so obvious that he was copying Kimi, trying to outdo him, and it failed dismally. Made him look like an ass. At least Kimi's words are genuine / from the heart (if he has one  )...

Damn. If it weren't for those big "Gulf Air" signs we could have engaged in a fun game of 'Spot the venue.'

I know the track and the year, and also the turn, but who else does?
It's not the first thing which might occur! :)

Silly. "Gives you wings" is only centimeters from the Pepe Jeans logos which have been in place for years. The top of Senna's helmet is a damn razor, how can that be any different?

Hamilton knew what he was doing, 'H.A.M' is a song by Jay-Z and Kanye West that clearly states the meaning of the abbreviation but doesn't Valentino Rossi have initials that mean 'Long Live Pussy' all over his helmet and overalls? and Rossi gets away with it :?

He put HAM on his helmet? Why the heck who he do that? He tweeted it in Spa and had to remove it, so why would he put it on his helmet now?

I am surprised Eccelstone has banned helmet advertising, would have thought he'd be a big fan so long as he much a few bucks out of it.
