For me, even though I'm a Hamilton fan it has to be
Alonso
Vettel
Hamilton
I can't stay I like vettel but can't argue with the results really. Hamilton was very unlucky the whole season but for me he was still a bit too aggressive at times (Maldonado, and Hulky this time round) what a season either way

For me it's Lewis.

We can't speculate what would have happened if he didn't have so much bad luck. Would he have crumbled under the pressure of the title fight? Would he have won all the races he lost through misfortune?

All we can say is that Lewis put himself in the position to succeed. That's all a driver can do in those circumstances. Because of that, Hamilton is my driver of the year.

for me it is between the top 4 with no order.

I am a Button fan but can admit Lewis did a better job this year.

Vettel, Alonso, Hamilton and Kimi (except for that last race) all drove fantastically

1. Alonso
2. Vettel tied with Hamilton
3. Kimi.

After being a Hamilton hater for the longest time, he's really proven me wrong this season. He's become much more mature as a driver and seemingly also as a person, leaving his most ardent fanboys in the dust in that regard, in fact... So I think that while I would still pick Alonso as my driver of the year, I think Hammy is definitely the most improved driver of the year, which is ironic, seeing as this is his lowest finish in the points in a while. For once, Hammy fans can argue that he has actually been very unlucky this year, with the amount of times he's been involved in incidents that either probably or definitely weren't his fault, as well as his mechanical failures. He's virtually ceased to rub me the wrong way this year, no more fits, and he's put in some great, controlled drives.

And, of course, Seb was great too, although I tie him with Hamilton because he caused a lot of incidents this season, despite his many great drives. With the amount of accidents he had, if he didn't have the fastest car on the track, he would have ended up way back in a lot of races. I don't mean to say he was lucky, lest I incur the wrath of his fans... but he won despite not showing the best of control.

...Having said all that, the poll shows that despite their largely going into hiding with his poor championship finish, the predominant demographic of this website is still rabid Hammy evangelists. Woo!

It's a toss up between Hamilton and Alonso for me. Depending on of course who you prefer out of the two.

Those two have arguably made zero mistakes from a driving point of view this season.

Lewis for me. I think it was a very good year for him in terms of driving, but terribly terribly unlucky all the way.

It has to go to Vettel IMO. Not the most error-free driver but he still performed great under pressure. Alonso was an amazing driver this year, except for the last few races when Massa showed to be better than him but the only reason I didn't vote for him was because he had a full team support and he took more credit than he deserved during the season for his achievements. Hamilton was also virtually error-free like Alonso but his Twitter saga kinda lowers him down compared to the two drivers that fought for the title till the end as I don't know if he'd be as great under pressure. The rest had a lot of ups and downs to be considered as the best for the entire season.

Its close between Alonso and HAmilton. But Alonso started getting a little inconsistent (but getting podiums from MAssa help). So I'll have to give it to HAmilton.

The best driver this season and utterly flawless and robbed of plenty wins.

Alonso - 3 points off the title in a car that was rarely a match for Red Bull. Also he made less mistakes than Vettel throughout the season (Suzuka squeeze against Kimi which caused DNF). Vettel was good but he did struggle against team mate Webber in the early season. Hamilton could have been the driver of the season but potential wins were lost due to McLaren unreliability and you never know what could have happened when there's 50% or so of a race distance remaining.

On record several times saying that it has to be Hamilton. Alonso and Vettel had great seasons too, but Hamilton would have had them all beat but for that black cloud over his head.

Very close between Fernando and Kimi for me, but due to consistency and outperforming what I felt was an average car, Fernando.

Hamilton for me, drove extremely well, but lost a huge amount of point due to terrible luck, and unlike Alonso who also drove very well, he never had special treatment like Alonso did, Vettel was very good, but with a very fast car, Webber did put a fight, but not enough.

So Hamilton had to do with everything from pit stops, to reliability, bad strategy at times and a teammate who would take point of him, not his fault, but clearly having 2 #1s in the team doesn't work!!......proof is Alonso with a slower car nearly missed on the title, and is down to the team support, which hamilton didn't have for many times. Makes huge difference. More happy than sad that he is leaving Mclaren, great car and great team, but lost it.

Fresh start is what Hamilton needs.

I think over all, same as most others it is Alonso/Vittel/Hamilton in any order, but second half of the season I think Hulk should be 'mentioned in dispatches'. Not just for his drive today, which he threw away himself

You're probably right, but Vettel was always in the right place to score what he could and keep himself in with a chance. He did what Alonso couldn't in 2010 (score what was needed to keep the lead).

I'd have to say best drivers were Hamilton, Alonso, Vettel in that order. History will show who was the better throughout their career, but Vettel drove a controlled season even when the car seemed problematic for him. Today's race (and Abu Dhabi to an extent) reminded me of Button in Brazil in 2009 and how people were saying his performance was worthy of a WDC, same with Vettel.

No doubt about it, the kid came through.

Never thought Alonso would turn out to be the bridesmaid so many times - holds the record for the number of times losing the championship in the final race!

Lewis. Made fewer mistakes than Vettel and Alonso but was let down by the team and just plain bad luck.

Extremely close, but Räikkönen, Hamilton and Alonso.

Alonso by a mile. Despite being in a car well under paced compared to his rivals he was always there with them. His car was shockingly bad at qualifying consistently putting him well done the starting order and yet he always every start he did he gained places off the line and held on well to lose by 3 points thanks to the incredible great luck of his opponent.

Alonso, he made the most out of every situation with an underdog of a car, he was pretty much flawless. Hamilton though he drove really well he did make a few mistakes, even if the championship was lost by the team. I think Lewis drove good enough to win the championship and had the car to do it outside of pitstop mistakes and unreliability.

Hamilton for me, Alonso was also really great, Vettel also.
Don't know why but to me it seems Alonso lacks the passion Vettel has

Hamilton just edges it for me. Error free all year. It would have been Alonso but 3 out of the past 5 races Massa has had him for speed so he has tailed off somewhat.

I voted Kimi, since finishing 3rd in the championship with a non-top car is quite a feat.

Lewis Hamilton, didn't put a foot wrong the whole season.
Guess I could say the same about Alonso and Kimi too.

Vettels racecraft hasn't been at their level. Just look at how he drove in Abu Dhabi.

Vettel, 3 years in a row is no coinsidince.
Alonso, he will probably won this one as he is by most people considered #1 right now, but I'll plave Vettel above right now.
