Im sure some will use it on a lap here and there just to get themselves further up the timesheets and hide real pace.

Sky Sports News will also have updates every couple of hours as they have Rachel Brooks there.

As long as they dont have that bloody brain dead idiot they had at the Lotus launch I dont mind.

DRS is too obvious. They can shed a few lbs in Ballast and no one can tell ;)

I fully expect to see Lewis top the time sheets as the car could probably do with some more sponsorship

Pirelli have confirmed that each car will be given 35 sets of tyres for the first pre-season test of 2013, which gets under way at Jerez in Spain on Tuesday.

In agreement with the teams, the Italian manufacturer will provide each car with one set of soft tyres, six sets of medium tyres, seven sets of hard tyres, three sets of intermediate tyres and three sets of wet tyres. The supersoft tyre will not be provided because of the particular characteristics of the Jerez circuit.

Only one set of soft tyres sounds strange. High degradation in Jerez would not make it relevant? Is that the reason?

Not a good start for merc

so... after all the praise for saubers new car, auto-motor-und-sport.de posted this picture from jerez:

the text below the pic explicitely stated: "Sauber brought their old car to Jerez" :?: :?: :?:

Adam Cooper tweeted a pic of Hulk in the new Sauber, so that seems odd that the '12 car would be there too.

The sidepods look like they've gone on a starvation diet on the new Sauber in the photo he posted. I'm really curious to see how that's going to perform. It might be the biggest change I've picked up on this year (though I'd consider myself a technical idiot given the knowledge Ive seen on this board). I do wonder about the air flow though and if it won't have overheating issues as a result of smaller intakes from the change.

maybe the old car is just a backup - in case the new car breaks down they could still do some tire-work...

I don't think they can do that . IIRC once the new car is on track that is it.

who said they managed the cooling problems from last year? ;P

another thing: looks like Gary Anderson got a tip from someone on some RedBull updates already...
Quote:
With the Red Bull, I have to say it's hard to tell any differences between it and last year's car at the moment, apart from the step on the nose and a little duct they have running through it from bottom to top. I'm not seeing a lot of stuff that looks like a big step forward, but I am on the Ferrari and the McLaren. I am told, though, there is a big rear bodywork update coming for the final test - but I haven't had that confirmed yet."

sounds like last year...

The Macca was supposedly on purpose. A fuel starvation test. Sounds like the same thing Merc done with Nico yesterday.

Not looking good that Merc are seemingly having the same problem they had in testing last year.

ross brawn stated that the w04 was more of a rolling prototype... did sound like they prepared a lot of different stuff to test with and go for the best solutions afterwards ... at least that would mean that the w04 has a lot of development potential...

rather worried about mclaren though... they have proven that they are still lacking some sort of consistency - thus building an all new car every year ... they went for the L-sidepods from 2 years ago but changed fundamental things like chassis-height and front-suspension ... i'm not an expert but that sounds like masses of data to gather and go through to learn about the new car...

Well I expect we're looking at 135 points this year then, at least the decrease seems to be levelling out over the years. Maybe Ross needs to stop saying "we'll do better".
