Testing might not mean anything, but pretty sure that can only be true to a certain degree...I mean, there must be a lap time threshold where you just have to accept a team is very fast?

After Day One Massa said Button's 1:18.8 was an "incredible" time, so I don't think he'll be too chipper about Grosjean's 1:18.2

Clearly illegal. I mean...how little does a sponsor have to pay to get THAT spot?

Also, you have to consider the amount of fuel the teams are running as well. In addition, the type of tires RoGro was on during the lap because teams are testing out all of the tires.

Its many things to consider for the lap.

Outlap - 1:18.218 - 1:29.857 - 1:19.393 - 1:21.322 - Inlap on soft tyres...

could be a qualifying-simulation or a tyre-test a la "how well do the tyres cope with torture during early laps" .... while typing i realized: could very well also be a test for how the tyres will do after you put in a quick qualifying lap, followed by an simulated inlap since those will be the tires you'll have to start your race with...

I think it is exactly the opposite. Everyone is taking pics of that exhaust; it is the exact right place to put their logo, for a fraction of the price!

Thats why the exhaust is illegal. Cause the sponsor knows pictures will be spread of it with their logo on. come the start of season the exhaust will be legal and the sponsor gone.

seriously? have you noticed how often pictures of exhaust-areas were taken last year? with that in mind i would love to spend my marketing money on a spot near the exhaust...

however - that might be the strategy anyway ... caterham could have come up with an offer that will draw attention to their exhausts so the sponsor gets some additional close-ups - just to get rid of it for the second round of testing... F1's also about the show, right? 8)

Isnt that the FIA action for road safety logo under there? Nobody has paid to put that on the car, its required.

Once the exhaust tailpipes, the bodywork required by Article 3.8.4 and any apertures permitted by Article 3.8.5 have been fully defined there must be no bodywork lying within a right circular truncated cone which :

a) Shares a common axis with that of the last 100mm of the tailpipe.

b) Has a forward diameter equal to that of each exhaust exit.

c) Starts at the exit of the tailpipe and extends rearwards as far as the rear wheel centre line.

d) Has a half-cone angle of 3° such that the cone has its larger diameter at the rear wheel centre line.

Furthermore, there must be a view from above, the side, or any intermediate angle perpendicular to the car centre line, from which the truncated cone is not obscured by any bodywork lying more than 50mm forward of the rear wheel centre line.

Yeah I just noticed. :?

The last answer was brilliant though:

What are your aims for the season?

Bottas: "To improve as a driver, as quickly and as well as possible. To learn from possible mistakes. To quite quickly manage to keep up with Pastor and put the car where it really belongs. In other words, to get everything out of the car as soon as possible and get to the stage of MAXIMUM ATTACK."

I think it's good for Caterham. Let them have there fancy exhaust. Nothing illegal about. Little guys got to move up some way.

BBC F1 technical analyst Gary Anderson in Jerez

"I've been out on the track watching the cars and the Lotus continues to look very impressive. The front end is always there, the traction is good and Romain Grosjean is able to be committed on the throttle. Sergio Perez was on a long run in the McLaren and he was very consistent. It also looks pretty good. The Toro Rosso has lost its edge from yesterday - now the rear is moving too much, which was always their problem last year. Red Bull I believe are concentrating on reliability before some upgrades but at the moment it looks like a one-line car - if the driver misses the turn-in, it's hard to get the nose back on line. The Ferrari looks OK, but its tyres are going off more quickly than some others - and it's not always riding the bumps as well as the best."

That's if it really was a brake failure, it's probably true but sometimes teams save the driver embarrassment by claiming a technical fault.

So they will also bench the car for a few hours to back up the story? :uhoh:

Clearly break failure

Merc is more in need of sparing themselves embarrassment than their driver is right now.

Think the C's exhaust might just be legal, if that winglet is just below the 'cone' coming out of the pipe. We haven't got a good enough view to tell.
