Grosjean set his best times on Soft tyres, di Resta & Ricciardo on Mediums, in that context Button's time from yesterday on Hards remains both surprising and out of sight, given caveats about fuel load etc.

di Resta remains the only driver able to run 10 laps remaining within 1s lap time consistency, Hulkenberg and Webber were better than the rest in this, then came Perez

Grosjean, Massa and Ricciardo were unable to run 5 laps within 1s, all seeing quite large degradation

Only the folks in those teams know whether they were or were not able to do those things. Are we back to the crystal ball situation?

^^^^^^^^^^^

Ricciardo had a very consistent 6 lap stint

1:25.45
1:25.358
1:25.106
1:25.282
1:25.269
1:25.375

With an average of 1:25.307

And he had a 10 lap stint from Lap 50 to 60 within about 1 sec

Unless he happens to have been in the garages of all those teams, simultaneously, all day today...I seriously doubt that.

Fixed :-P

Apologies, I accept I missed the one stint that Ricciardo managed in which his average time over 6 laps was consistent.

In testing, consistency (like outright speed) doesn't mean anything anyway because the myriad of other factors that can affect running such as the cars not even having to comply with the regulations leaves too much uncertainty.

Having said that, a pattern is beginning to appear, there is more data to play with every day

Marussia look to be a bit off the pace so far... I know they can tank it up with fuel but I'm sure very few of the others have done low fuel runs yet so even they brimmed it it wouldn't account for such a large gap. Idk though, testings is mysterious.

They should let Marussia use refuelling. Would make for an interesting battle.

I can't wait to see how Bottas does over the next two days, the way Williams have hyped him up he should be setting the timing screens alight, I hope he does well.

I been hearing various comments about Jerez is not like any track they race on for whatever reasons be it the layout or the abrasive surface. So I was wondering why is it they test here ? Anybody know ?

Good mix of fast and medium speed corners, short fast track, good weather, cheap to rent, good facilities, It's a safe enough track for MotoGP and Europe is the closest and most ideal place for all the teams in terms of logistics (ie South Africa or Australia or anywhere in the southern hemisphere would be ideal but they don't have good enough tracks).

I am assuming Lotus are trying to set fast laps, but I sure hope they pick up where they left off or perhaps found a bit of pace....

Despite having had so little running Hamilton said the car showed potential: “I’m quite happy with it. I think we’ve got a good foundation.”

He set a best time of 1’19.515 which was still quick enough for sixth-fastest time at the end of the day. “That was an easy time to get,” he said. “There’s definitely more in it but I’m pushing the aero guys as hard as I can because we need more aero, for sure.”

“Coming from a McLaren that was so competitive at the end of last year, had incredible downforce, you definitely notice the difference But it’s nowhere near as bad as it could be.”

as of now - at least the sponsor got some value out of the exhausts... guys driving were complaining about a loose rear so it seems the exhausts aren't working the way they wanted...

Bottas sets the first timed lap, a careful time of 1m29.697s.

As Autosport writes:
"08:03 And there's our AUTOSPORT Live guest from yesterday, Valtteri Bottas. It's probably a bit early for 'MAXIMUM ATTACK' (which he insists must be written in capitals)."
