It's either Vettel or Alonso. Usually the champ gets it but not always. I say Alonso.

Vettel Alonso Kimi Hamilton

Hard one but I think any of these deserve it.

I kinda want Hamilton though.

Well I should clarify that. Seb was in UK last night for RBR end of season party, and as far as I can tell Fernando was and still is in Spain.

maybe his royal highness will not turn up at any of the awards ceremony to register his protest at not being crowned the champion this year

Yeah turning up wouldn't go well with his "forever aloneso" moments.

Autosport readers have chosen Jenson as British Competition Driver of the year, and Sebastian as International Racing Driver of the year. When you see Seb Loeb give Seb Vettel an award, after winning his own for Rally Driver of the year, you gotta wonder how long before Red Bull has a multi-time world champion named Seb in every category of motorsport....

Hmmm... after all the hype from Ferrari and Alonso about the respect he has earned in the paddock, and several articles quoting other drivers saying he was the most impressive (and a few, but less, citing Vettel as the 'deserving champion'), it is interesting to see the public response.

How many more awards ceremonies of note are coming? Though this is one of the big ones.

Congrats to the winners. I especially liked the BRDC Young Drivers, watch for some of these guys.

Regards.

Why do you feel the need to bring fans into this? Button getting this award for being best british driver of 2012 is down to how impressive he was compared to other british drivers including Hamilton who only managed 7 poles, 4 wins that he didn't have to work hard for and show all his skills....And that is not enough to earn him anything. Got it?

I don't get the logic here. Lewis was nominated for International Racing Driver of the Year award where Jenson wasn't even on the list, yet Jenson won the British Competition Driver of the Year?

"These awards are also influenced by the general public, as they can vote for the driver that has excelled to them throughout the year.." from Wikipedia. I wonder how much weight the opinion of the general public has and whom the general public is composed of. Is it that some sort of a panel decides that Button, Hamilton, Vettel, Kimi and Alonso are the IRDotY candidates and then the public (whom I presume are mostly British due to Autosport being English-language and directed mainly at the British audience) votes who wins.

IMO both Vettel and Button winning is interesting.

Vettel because the vast majority of opinions I've read have tended to suggest that popular opinion holds Alonso as the better driver this year. I regard this and Autosport's forums as a fair barometer of the sort of people who would vote in the Autosport Awards. Either the people who endorsed Vettel were staying silent or people's opinions changed towards the end of the season.

Button beating Hamilton to British Driver of the Year is IMO nothing short of lunacy. Hamilton absolutely creamed him this year. Given this can be seen as a bit of a popularity contest, IMO that says a lot about the extent of Hamilton's fanbase compared to Button's, which is interesting. I would have expected Hamilton to have more fans being the more 'exciting' driver and given is impressive beginning to the sport, but perhaps people are averse to his personality or they've been very fickle.

The vote is done from Autosport readers, I guess their readers are more middle aged white men, who prefer somone like Button over Hamilton. IMo the most Hamilton fans are not Autosport subscribers. I don't pay for their "journalism", too.

He obviously wasn't the British driver of the year was he, any f1 fan can see that, but it shows he has more fans than Lewis i guess.

Bit cringe that he won it but it is what it is.

So Button beat both Hamilton and a guy who won his third Indy 500 this year. Would love to have seen most readers decision's as to why they voted for him. Although in reality this award show is mainly a end of year gherkin up for the motoring community
