Just 10 more days left til Race of Champions where Vettel/Schumacher defend their title!

I just checked on RoC's main site and it only looks like 7 or 8 handful of drivers are participating compared to last year? Is the line-up finalized and will there be some late additions to RoC?

It seems like only Vettel/Schumacher is participating from Formula 1, no Button this year? Glock? etc.

Just had a look at their site, Jorge Lorenzo's taking part, nice one.

I don't understand the way they've listed the competitors. I know Chandhok and Karthikeyan are taking part but they're split off from the main bunch (along with Ho Pin Tung and another Chinese driver) under the heading 'ROC Asia', as if it were a different event. But isn't it all taking place in Bangkok this year? Makes sense to do it in a hot country, I went to see it at Wembley about 6 years ago and it was the coldest day I can remember.

Based on the wikipedia page (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2012_Race_of_Champions ) it appears they are having a mini ROC Asia before the main ROC proper. The winners of ROC Asia will join the main bunch.

Normally they get some US drivers (Pastrana, etc). Bit worrying they haven't confirmed them at this late stage though. Would have thought they would want to announce them to drive up expectations...

Yeah looks like a smaller field this year. Location might have something to do with it. I'm looking forward to it though! Only place you get to see these guys in equal machinery in equal conditions.

What are general rules for ROC? I know there should be 2 guys from the same country - but are the teams the same each year? I mean do we have to see the same countries each time like kind of a 'league'?

PS. I would love to see Kubica there! Seeing him kicking some a** with one hand would be just great!

The teams are based on who signs up, so no, some different teams each year. Seb and Michael are going into their 6th year as teammates though.

They don't have to be from the same country. We've seen Scandanavia several times, also an All-Stars team a few times, last year a Slavic team and one year we had both the UK and Scotland compete as separate teams (I think 2006, a year or two later we had England and Scotland, last year plain old GB).

Haven't watched it for years, but one year it had live streaming (legit, from the ROC site).

Not HD obviously, but enough to watch it.

I can remember seeing ROC on tv here in the states years ago, but I dont think it was live.

The top two in each group earn the right to participate in the knockout stages. Now, following today’s draw at Bangkok’s Rajamangala Stadium led by Kanokphand Chulakasem, Governor of the Sports Authority of Thailand, this year’s star drivers have discovered who awaits them.

Looking forward to this as ever. It's a shame Travis Pastrana isn't there this year, but that's probably due to his Nitro Circus European tour that's currently going on.

We could end up with Ho Pin Tung with Team China, or Chandok and Karthikeyan with Team India, which could be fun.

Travis is the man. I have always been curious how he would do in an F1 car. The guy just has that "IT" quality about him and he can just do things with ease others can't imagine is possible. Just an insanely talented guy and aside from his hilarious sense of humor, the guy is all business and completely focussed when it comes to competition.

He really IS the man. No doubting the talent when it comes to rally or motorcycles. He's proven that time and time again over the years.

Definitely no doubting the bravery.

BUT, he has not done well at all in Nationwide. In fact, I don't think he is anywhere near as good on asphalt as he is on dirt, so I don't know how good he'd be in an F1 car.

Could be wrong, of course.

If I did understand you correctly I agree. When it comes to bravery and car control Travis is great..but I am not sure this is what makes a good driver. As far as short spectactular events are concerned - Travis rocks...but I do not see him being any good in WRC not to mention F1! He is more like a 'trick master' than solid driver.

No team Finland... has to be the first time for sure. Weird because the whole event is a tribute to a deceased finnish driver...

Tried to book tickets for this event as its on my doorstep, but their ticket site has got to be the worst I have ever come across. After trying for about 2 hours gave up phoned helpline ~~~ huh, no help at all.

So decided I was not that desperate to go, so they lost out on 4 ticket sales.

If they get a GP will need to tidy up their act, but at least will then be able to get them on official F1 site.

IMO he's an excellent driver on dirt, but racing on asphalt is quite different and is where I feel his big weakness lies. In WRC I agree that he might not be any good. He would be like Latvala when he was younger: fast on dirt, not so fast on Tarmac, crashes a lot. And I doubt he would be as quick as Latvala on dirt.
