Most of the drivers have their dedicated threads, but the real backbones of the teams dont. Seems unfair. So heres one to celebrate the accomplishments of one of the REAL STAR DESIGNER.

The 1st real star designer? Even if you disregard people like Colin Chapman, the term 'first superstar designer' was being virtually universally applied to Gordon Murray almost 30 years ago. Don't want to be a downer in his official thread, but it will doubtless reach crazed heights of adoration without starting from a falsely lofty position.

Anyone who's just had to walk through icy winds because a bit of rain has broken an underground rail network has the right to be grumpy.

I'll feel bad for being pedantic once I warm up a bit. :)

One thing I really like about Newey is that he's a wealthy car fan who spends money on cars and then drives them how they should be driven (as opposed to most drivers who seem to invest in property and drive a 4x4).

This is his beautiful original GT40:

After taking it to Le Mans in 2006:

His equally beautiful and original E-Type:

After taking it to Goodwood, also 2006:

And last Goodwood he raced the rebuilt Jag again, hard enough to go off at speed in the first corner. I love that. Anyone with such love for and dedication to racing gets my respect. I'd be overwhelmed by the need to keep cars like this wrapped in cotton wool, even though I'd hate myself for it.

For obvious reasons he doesn't seem to publicise it, but he's also raced modern Ferrari's competetively for AS Corse. He's done the full-on 24 hours of Le Mans, finishing quite respectably IIRC.

And here he is driving the RB5 Red Bull gave him at Goodwood:

There's more to this chap than meets the eye.

Ouch! Expensive! 8O

Yeah I like Newey.. Remember that video someone posted a while back when he was driving the RB?.. He stalled it at the pit exit. Then when he got out there it seemed like he pushed it fairly much. He is a racer but I still think he should stick to his day job. ;)

Excellent. Saw an article in Motor Sport about this day but not seen the video before. That Leyton House always surprises me by being so beautiful. Imagine what could have been? Geoff Willis was onboard and Mercedes' Jochen Neerspach was lining up Schumacher for a paid debut with them when the opening at Jordan came about.

Horner: 'Were you flat through Woodcote?'
Newey: 'Yes'
Horner: 'Oh god'

Some say, RedBull gives you wings, so by that logic, does Adrien Newey gives the car wings?

I have no problem with a thread on Adrian Newey... but the Official Adrian Newey Thread?

Do we have the Official Colin Chapman Thread too

the Official Enzo Ferrari Thread?

The Official Bruce McLaren Thread

The Official Frank Williams Thread?

The Official John Todt Thread?

I find the term "Official" a bit ostentatious ... over the top.

*fulfilling garagetinkerer's premonition.*

That has got to be the greatest reward/bonus any employer could give an employee surely? A Red Bull F1 car!!!

Imagine being able to turn up at a local track day and spinning around in that, blasting passed all the chavs in thier souped up Escorts and MGs!

I'm not a fan of RBR, but I'm a fan of Adrian and it's fun to see what he comes up with each year. He really does some amazing cars.
And I can take a gherkin at RBR all I want but they do seem to have alot of fun and they seem to reward their employees for all their hard work, I respect that.

Great fun to see the video, thanks for sharing!

Adrian Newey doesn't obey the laws of physics. The laws of physics obey Adrian Newey.

Not at all my friend... i meant to denote those ranters who suggest that it is the designer winning the WDC's than the driver.

Newey and Byrne are to me the best Formula One car designers the sport has ever seen.

I also believe Rory Byrne would have had more titles had he not stepped down from his position at Ferrari. Although Aldo Costa was credited with the design of the F2007, Byrne had a very large role in its design.

Rumor has it that he has been seen at the Ferrari factory a lot in the last few months, and may be aiding in the design of the Ferrari's 2013 car
