Official 2013 regulation changes have been published, as I'm sure many of you have heard.

Some interesting ones from: http://www.fia.com/news/world-motor-sport-council-2012

Quote:
More stringent front wing deflection tests have been introduced.

For safety reasons, use of the DRS during practice will now only be allowed in the place(s) it will be used on the track in the race.

Deletion of the ‘force majeure’ allowance when a car stops on the track in qualifying. The FIA will determine how much fuel the car would have used to get back to the pits and add it to the one litre sample minimum.

The team personnel curfew will be extended from six to eight hours on Thursday night and only two exceptions will be allowed during a season (formerly four).

Perhaps it was a typo but it's interesting that the DRS restriction doesn't mention qualifying.

BTW, the force majeure rule change was mentioned in various articles a few weeks ago but now it's official. (Example: http://www.autosport.com/news/report.php/id/104256)

The qualifying fuel thing is a bit silly. The current rule works, why change it?

I think in the REGs Quali is considered a practice session.

Hahaha for safety reasons, use of DRS only in designated areas. More like to stop red bull huh.

Qualifying is otherwise known as "Qualifying Practise"

Hence why the other sessions are known as "Free Practise"

:D :D :D

Mark Webber was one of the drivers pushing for the change.

so there goes that theory, unless of course you think he's taking a backhander from other teams.

Really if DRS is an overtaking aid and can´t be used all the time during the race, there´s no logical reason why it was allowed in FP and Quali without restriction, so the measure is quite accurate to me

I don't get the whole force majeure thing anyway. If cars ate technically in parc ferme at the start of quali till the end of the race, why not simply say the car must get back to the pits or it is disqualified from the sesion? The basic way of looking at it being if the car is capable of doing 2 laps, but suddenly can't get round the 3rd due to a fault, then it obviously wouldn't make it another 310km to finish the race and is not fit to qualify.

There is: to make the cars faster. That was probably the only good thing about DRS.

That used to be the point of F1 and other motorsport, you know..
