Cosworth has had a very long association with F1, having raked in more win than any other manufacturer except maybe Ferrari. Now with HRT gone, they will be supplying engines to Marussia. Cosworth was initially brought in to provide a cheaper options to the lower order teams. However with the recent money troubles at the company supply remains a question. Now with just Mercedes, Ferrari and Renault providing engines it might be difficult for some new teams to enter if they are on a real tight budget. What do you think?

Are Marussia due to change? If not Cosworth at least have another season of custom. And if a new team enters in 2014 they'll probably have a customer there too.

Caterham have settled on Renault power, while Marussia have links to McLaren meaning that if they were to change supplier they would likely approach Mercedes. I can't see a single team taking their engines as a profitable business venture, it must cost them too much for 16 units to be profitable I think.

Marussia's cars have always used Cosworth engines, so it would make sense for them to stick with Cosworth.

I can't see them continuing in 2014. As if they were going to, they needed to start developing the new engine several month's ago. And with only one team (and not an especially rich one), there would be no financial sense to develop a new engine.

When they entered they said their business model was based on supplying 3 teams, went down to 2 this year, and now down to 1 for 2013. I doubt they will be making any money next year anyway.

Unfortunately, at the moment it does seem likely that they'll be out of F1 once the new engine regs come on stream. But, so long as they're able to secure their future as purveyor of high-end tuned, and race engines, they'll surely be back as some point or another, they're so intrinsically linked to F1's history it just wouldn't be right if Cosworth left never to come back.

On a slightly different note, I've always been slightly disappointed that they didn't call their company Ducktin.

Didn't know that, thanks. I stand by my statement about the cost effectiveness for Cozzie though.

So its unofficially confirmed that Cosworth will not be making the V6 for 2014 and Marussia will be hunting for a replacement

I read a rumour somewhere that McLaren might be taking over Cosworth's F1 engine subsidiary as a basis for there own engine program. It's probably nosense but you can see the logic of it. Anyone else heard anything to that effect?

I'll be sad to see Cosworth go. It's always a shame to see a legendary name leave the sport, even if they haven't achieved much for some time.

I think I read that in a thread on here somewhere, but it was a mostly rubbished rumor, but I guess not impossible.
