Did you ask him how he felt about being lead driver at sauber and if he's feeling any pressure from Lewis being his new teammate?

Props for not bothering him though. I hate the idea of approaching celebrities when they're on their "own" time. I remember when a friend sent me a photo of Jenson having dinner at the table next to him in Austin i was like "please don't go over there and ask for his autograph or something" and a minute later he sent a picture of himself posing with Jenson. Facepalm.

I did that.
I asked John Button first when he passed my table if he thought Jenson would mind. He said "you would have to ask him".
Jenson was fine with it.
I doubt Jenson lost any sleep over it and it gave me and my brother a memory for life.
Now go ahead and facepalm me Ash. :)

Its not a big deal. I just hated it when I was younger and well known among a competition circle and kids would visit our tent or come over to say hi at the hotel. I guess I shouldn't say hate, but it was annoying. I used to get so heated when I'd catch a little kid sneaking in the back of the tent to meet our equine counterparts and feed them treats or whatever and my trainer would in turn get quite heated at me. He saw it as potential business wandering in and I saw it as potential sabotage  Okay, back on topic (sorry).

Yay for living near F1 factories!

At the circuit, sure. Away from it? I'd just be creepy and try to take stealth photos.

I applaud your honesty :) I've never met him but I he comes across as the sort of person who would be cool with fans both at and away from the track.

Maybe he meant his gf. There is a picture of her on PF1 main page section "The WAGS of Formula One".

Personally, I'd like to think I wouldn't ever turn down the opportunity to meet an F1 driver. You may think it's rude or it might irritate them, but if they put themselves in the spotlight of one of the biggest sports in the world and don't expect the occasional person to go up to them, they need to reconsider their career.

For me, I know the odds that I'd ever bump into an F1 driver are about 24/7,000,000,000 so it'd be a darn shame to turn down the opportunity. Who knows - the person might even be nice.

And they'd give you their number.
And you'd become best friends.
And you'd go to the races together.
And one day, he would feel sick and the team would need a replacement driver and you'd be right there and they'd say "hey, you, why don't you give it a shot?" and you'd go out and you'd win and you'd become World Champion.

I might have run away with myself a bit there.

I think it depends on the situation. If they're having a nice, quiet dinner at a high end restaurant, I probably would not bother them and maybe I might try to sneak a photo (make sure the flash is OFF!)

On the other hand, if they were having a drink at a pub and they were alone, I would have zero problems approaching them and would probably offer to buy them a drink. What's the worse that could happen? At best, you might end up becoming great friends. At worst, they'd say no and they won't even remember you.

Vettel running away from fans in Monaco

Not even joking, I used to imagine that exact scenario as I was going to sleep. What's more is that I imagined us teaming up in the future, and if a situation had arose where I was in 1st place, and the other driver (of whom this is about) was in 2nd, I'd let them past.. in my fantasy world.
