Do I remember wrong or did Häkkinen lap even Schumacher who was second? If Schumi had kept up Häkkinen would have been on podium despite the retire.

He had lapped Montoya in 3rd I think.

Last unlapped guy was Kimi in 8th. Mika was classified 9th in the end.

Schumacher had lapped everyone up to 8th. Hakkinen was way ahead of him though and lapped everyone except Michael I think.

If he'd lapped everyone up to Michael he'd have finished on the podium because he retired on the last lap. Everyone down to Kimi caught and passed him on the last lap, everyone else was over a lap behind so couldn't.

Turkey 2010. They all just followed each other until the Red Bulls collided and the McLarens then couldn't decide if they were allowed to race each other or not

This was the first one that came to my mind as well.

How about the opposite? 1st lap crash and then boring procession? Abu Dhabi 2010 comes to mind. Scary crash on lap one with Schumi nearly getting his head ripped off, then pretty boring race after that with Alonso getting stuck behind Petrov for many laps and Vettel scampering off in front.. As a Vettel fan I enjoyed the race, but I have to admit there was not a lot of action going on.

Hakkinen had lapped JPM who was in 3rd and had something like a 40 second gap over schumacher .So when hakkinen retired, the drivers from 3rd to 9th position managed to unlap themselves and begin the final lap. That is why hakkinen was classified ninth a lap down.

As has been requested I name an example that didn't have Michael Schumacher involved (the simple truth is for a long time in his heyday most of the exciting races did):

Spa 2007 was really quite boring until the late race rain.

I think you mean Spa 2008.

Good god yes, my favourite couple of laps in F1 history.
