Sepang this year with Karthikeyan and he needed to change his front wing. Cost him dearly just after the pit stop. Some may have a different view and I know I'm writing with the 20/20 vision of hindsight but I think he wasn't as sharp as he usually is when he reached the HRT on that occasion.

That wasn't a first lap crash.

Nah he avoided it but it cost him places.

Someone on the old forum went through all his DNFs from accidents, who was at fault etc etc. Made for interesting reading.

I think it was in the Belgium in 2009 with the Brawn car

Romain Grosjran started the multicar pile up.

The only reason I say this is because they had an article on Romain Grosjran and his accidents and I'm pretty sure that one was listed with those two drivers in lap one.

Yep, the stupidity of Grosjean was a problem even in 2009.

I know for sure kimi had 4 first lap accidents in his career: spain and germany 2003 and usa 2006. Malaysia 2006 is also a first lap incident but his tire exploded from debris on a straight and he lost control. Plus in his career he had only another 6 accidents that proved terminal for him none from his fault though. (i think) So he can be considered really good in this area...

As for the other top drivers i'll have to look them up on sites...

Just checked about other drivers as well

Massa, Alonso and Vettel have 4 first lap accidents in their carrer.

Intersting fact that all 4 of Vettel's accidents are from the first half of 2008 when he was considered a crash kid like Maldonado and Grosjean.

Button has 5. Webber has a surprising 8 despite not being considered a crash prone driver...

Hamilton has only 3 and 2 of these were caused by Grosjean... (i don't think he'll like him that much...)

Also Alonso has had 12 retirements from accidents while, Massa has 11, Hamilton and Kimi have only 10 and Vettel just 8.

On the other hand Button has 18 and Webber 19...

I guess being a poor starter plays part in that. You're bound to have more first lap (or corner) crashes if you are falling down the field.

I guess because his crash with Bruno did not cause a retirement and his puncture in Abu Dhabi was a puncture not an accident.

Webber is a bit like Coulthard in that he is prone to the odd moment of clumsyness

with first lap crash i mean any incident not necessarily race ending , and button stat in the last three years at least is very impressive when u consider his starting positions which were in middle of the action compared to vettel who starts from the front row

Nope Kimi only failed to complete one lap all season. That was in Brazil because he was lapped when he tried to take a rally cross style joker lap.

an amazing feat.

Button is easily the best 2nd driver on the grid, for the last 3 years. Well done to him and Mclaren for picking him.

If it were some other drivers stat, people would be calling for them to issue them with extra points for it ;)

That wasn't a first lap crash.
