Hamilton, Vettel and Alonso have never joined a team who have won more than one race in the season prior to them joining.

An interesting and irrelevant Fact. Indeed.

given that Vettel and Hamilton have only been with 2 teams so far that is a pretty useless fact :)

Seb has been with 3 teams :)

Its not entirely irrelevant either when you consider how many people talk about drivers always having it easy, or being with the best team, or whatever. All three have gone to teams that didn't promise success.

Alonso signed for McLaren during the 2005 season, when they won 10 races, I'm sure he was pretty confident about their future competitiveness at that point.

Seb joined a team which had never won & which he himself had beaten the previous year.
I remember thinking he was mad joining a team running the Renault engine. How wrong was I.

Just an anomally that McLaren / Ferrari had uncharacteristically bad seasons in 2006 / 2009 respectively. There was absolutely no doubt in either case that they would be fighting for championships in the years that followed.

On the other hand, it's easy to overlook the achievements of taking Renault / Red Bull to the front as Alonso previously did and as Vettel did. It's easy to point at Michelin or at Newey and they certainly went a long way, but it's hard to tell exactly whether or not they'd have had the momentum to get to the top without a world class driver - after all it's not since he was united with Hakkinen that Newey won any titles, and without Alonso at Renault the 05 and 06 titles would have been easy wins for McLaren and Ferrari.

Macca had a history of being a top team & winning drivers & constructors championships whereas RB had never even come close to winning.
