I wanna play what if with the forum real quick on two questions which have been bugging me.
What if Ferrari had dropped Massa...
Would a back marker pick him up and which one and who would replace him.
Personal opinion... He goes to caterham instead of pic and they pick kumui

I don't think Massa would drive for a backmarker team.

Er.... possibly Lotus would have not signed Grosjean and got Massa instead? More likely though he'd go back to Sauber alongside Hulkenberg.

Massa stated he would rather retire than go to a midfield or back marker team
so Massa retired and i think Ferrari would have only replaced him with Webber, he is the only one Ferrari have been properly interested in.

Wasn't it suggested that both Webber and Hulkenburg were considered but their height was a issue?

Well Webber was ready to sign but then ipted to stay with rbr because at the time he was 2nd behind Alonso and he knows the team well at rbr and at Ferrari he is number 2 at red bull he at least has a chance tofight for the title

Massa would have retired - maybe he would have approached pirelli but i think he doesn't have the proper lap-by-lap consistency for that job... however: as pirelli test-driver you might be valuable for a team to hire you next season...

replacement? uhum... i don't think webbo would really have ended up at ferrari - there is just no match at neither side... i actually don't see one of the young-guns at ferrari... what's trulli been doing all year long? :)

That's the problem though isn't it, Ferrari don't want a young upstart jumping in and upsetting the applecart. There is no decent experienced men in f1 and by experienced i don't mean 3 years. Maybe what DLR or WEB or BUT. The rest either don't have the skill or don't have the experience or wouldn't settle as number 2, like Hamilton. So really it was Massa the only option. Unless they brought back a Barichello or trulli.

Unfortunately, I could see Massa going to a team like Caterham. To me, he doesn't seem to have the strength or will to accept when his time is up.

I think Webber at Ferrari would've worked well. Mark and Fernando are great friends and both have great respect for each other. This is a much stronger relationship and respect than Alonso had with Fisichella, Hamilton or Massa. Webber'd be happy to see Fernando do well, just as Fernando'd be happy to see Webber do well. Unfortunately I can't imagine we'll ever see the two working in the same team, but it's a nice thought.

Plus, I can't see Webber being PC enough for Ferrari. He's very much a jeans and t-shirt man, not cardigans and dinner suits.

If Ferrari dropped Massa I would imagine he would be one of the teams in the lower end of the midfield. Probably like Williams or Sauber. He hasn't got age on his side anymore and his performance against Alonso has battered his reputation to the point where I doubt any top team would hire him. He's had about 8 or 9 good performances in their 3 year tenure together and that really isn't good enough for a top driver.

As for who would have replaced him? I don't know. Webber is a nice shout, but I don't think he's quite right to be a Ferrari driver. They would maybe have gone for someone younger, like Hulkenburg

Does anyone think maybe Hulk has gone to Sauber with a view to a Ferrari move in 2014? Would make sense for both parties IMO. I believe he would of got the nod in 2013 if Massas form didn't pick up

I think he showed a maturity this year but it is a season or two too early i can see Ferrari wanting him as no
2 in the future though.
