..

Whilst most people posting to this board may be described as "fans", does anyone know what the effect of the split of TV coverage in the UK (mainly to Sky) did to gross viewing figures of F1 GPs in 2012 ?

Were there as many TV viewers watching as in previous years or did the limited "free-to-air" GPs mean that the exposure of F1 to the British public has been reduced.

I know that F1 got more money as a result of the split, but I am wondering whether IN FUTURE whether the "fan base" might be damaged ?

In my opinion, the "fan base" won't be damaged, F1 will just get less casual viewers.

I know a lot of people who were quite casual viewers who didn't bother watching this year, even those who had the F1 channel.

1 thing that really stands out when reading that article is that the spokesperson's for both BBC and Sky talk a load of crap!

You can look at viewing figures for any UK channel on http://www.barb.co.uk

Interestingly Brazil didnt even get into the weekly top 10 for the BBC.

Brazil GP had 582,000 views on Sky Sports F1. According to F1Fanatic it was 6.6m for the BBC (up 0.7m on the previous year).
