That's a big if. Hulkster would still have to raise his own game quite a lot to challenge Vettel and still Vettel would have the advantage because he's been at Red Bull for about a million years already while Hulkster would be in a new team.

Thats true. Imagine if Ferrari signed Hulk and Vettel for 2014? Both joining a new team hulk would beat vettel.

I can't help but laugh when people say things like this with such conviction. What are you basing this on!?

I can't help but assume they're just baiting each other.

I can't help but assume that diablo is trying to bait you. 8O Always with the countdown for some reason.

For sure Hulk is the only driver since Hamilton who has won all titles pre-f1.

And how long did it take Romain to win GP2, he had 2 seasons experience where he failed to win it in those times.

But then some drivers got pulled out of their lower Formula to make the jump to F1 sooner ;)

But he has one every tittle on the way to F1 which is what we were saying. Also he won GP2 in his second full season not his third. and has won 6 tittles pre F1 to Hulks 4 so I think his record stacks up pretty well.

No in his second season he got drafted into F1 mid season the season that Hulkenburg won the GP2, which also made it that bit easier for Hulkenburg to win it as Grosjean was his main competition

Actually he had 2 half seasons, so that's 2 seasons experience before he could win GP2.

He didn't partake in all the races in the GP2 seasons of 2009 or 2010.

In his first full season he finished 4th, not bad for a rookie. In his only other full season he won it.

Let's get things right here.

Yep it would be some feat to win the GP2 champs competing in only half the races

I don't tend to put too much emphasis on what drivers achieve pre F1 as a parallel indication of what they could do in F1 because as with F1, lower series also have problems of performance gaps between teams and different levels of competition in the field of drivers.

Look at the relative performances of Hamilton and Piquet Jnr in F1, even if you account for the performance gaps in the teams they joined. Kobayashi and Perez weren't especially impressive in GP2 but proved themselves in F1.

Look at what happened to Jan Magnussen and Vitantonio Liuzzi too, who both dominated F3 and F3000 respectively but failed to make the same impact in F1.

Indeed Vettel would be in big trouble, but only if there was equal treatment. Because right now his teammate is treated like a b*tch (taking off front wing, 'Mark, you need to maintain the gap', countless car problems) and on top of that Webber is journeyman with almost no achievements before Red Bull rose to the top in 2009. This is why Vettel is looking like a great driver, while in fact he is only good and equal to many others on current grid, who don't have a priviledge of a car, which is 15-20 kph faster in corners than all other machines.

With equal treatment I'm quite sure Hulk would smash (pun intended) Vettel, but I doubt we will ever see it, because Red Bull and Marko will protect Vettel, his and their image, as much as they can, because they absolutely can't allow someone beating 3 (or 4) times world champion. That would hurt them and their business massively.

If Hulk joined RB in 2014, I'd expect Vettel to initially show him the way quite comfortably, but it might get close enough as Hulk gets used to his new team.
Would expect Vettel to beat him though, but I guess everyone expected Alonso to beat Hamilton in 2007.

I agree with posters above who reckon Hulk has to up his game some way to challenge Vettel. In 2014 imo Vettel would dominate him; Seb is a very talented and capable driver with a fierce competitiveness. At the momonet (2012) only Alonso and Hamilton compare.

But in two season's time who knows, Hulk may get up there, as well as possibly Perez, Grosjean, Maldonado. Only if they are with one of the top teams though.

well Nico would do better joining Red Bull than joining Ferrari, at Red Bull he doesn't have to deal with Alonso.... and doesn't have to deal with team orders right from the beginning of the season
