He certainly expressed surprise in the end of year review that Di Resta was overlooked during all the big driver changes. I think many fans of the sport have a very blinkered view of things, if a driver's not on their screen the whole race they don't pay any attention to them...Paul's just one of those drivers that gets ignored by the director, he can be quietly running a great race but because he's not banzai-ing Kobayashi style into the side of another car he doesn't get the time on camera. Team bosses and the people that matter notice when a driver puts in consistent lap times, or beats his team mate during certain sectors of the lap...that's what gets drivers noticed in the pitlane.

You can't ignore the fact though that in the second half of the season Hulkenburg was much the stronger driver and its easier to dismiss di Resta being stronger in the first half of the season because of his greater experience with the team

Hulks second year with the team. He was reserve and test driver in 2011 so he should have known the team well enough.

Its not the same as racing for the team though and di Resta did the same the year before but i'm sure he would still be classed as a rookie when he started racing for the team.

Also Hulkenburg tends to be a slow starter, F3 Euroseries, GP2, Williams and Force India are proof of that, when he got up to speed di Resta was somewhat wanting
