So Toto Wolff will be Norbert Haugs replacement as Mercedes Motorsport Boss. Don't understand how it will work considering he owns a substantial amount of Williams as well and he was the Chairman. I doubt Mercedes and Williams would like for him to be sat in two chairs..

He also owns 49% of Mercedes DTM team HWA.

1. It's Bild. They have been known to make stuff up in the past.

2. Wait for an official announcement.

3. Could really suck for Williams.

If it is true (And I doubt it) it could be good for Williams.

Merc Engines for next year?

Assuming their PR is accurate and they do indeed have the best new spec engine.
However all we know right now is that they're more willing to talk about the new engine.

I dunno, Sauber are gunning for Merc engines according to some as well and Merc have already said it's two customer teams only for the near future, one being McLaren. Williams seem happy with Renault anyway.

Happy I don't know, happier that with Cosworth, yeah. Is there a reason why they'd decline the option of supplying more than 3 (including themselves) teams with engines?

I very much doubt Toto is moving, it's Bild and for such a headline you'd expect credible journalists to at least mention it as a possibility.

[offseasonBS] MMM Maybe McLaren will do a deal to drop the Merc so Merc can supply another team in their place and they can go Honda [/offseasonBS]

Don't forget though the rumours FI are going to Ferrari so that would be a straight Sauber/FI swap that way.

If and I stress If it's all true with Haug gone and a new man in charge they might change the three team rule. Surely having an extra team would be better for development in the early days at least?

It's Bild, but If they announce something like this it's true.
The write a lot of stuff, but they usually are very well informed

Merc Engines for next year?

Neither of the parties denied it so far
It's just "No comment" so far.

its an odd one this as has been said he owns part of Williams, perhaps he is pulling out or he will keep his share and bring williams the Merc engine as a leaving gift.

so so hard for mid grid teams to keep up when top teams take all the mid pack's talented people.

IMo it had more to do with the Wolffs ( susie, too) DTM involvement.

I'd hardly call Merc a top team right now. One race win in three seasons doesn't constitute the makings of a top team. They are midfield. That's why they brought Hamilton in, to try and change that.

Not a top team in terms of recent success but no doubt given their name, power and financial muscle are very lucrative place to join if you are in Williams, Force India or below.

Ask Toyota and Honda about financial muscle, name and power and how it can buy you success... It doesn't. Having the right people on board to utilise that cash/power does. Time will tell if Merc can do that and move into the top 4 and rightfully say they are a top team. As of now they aren't.

I am sorry Laura I meant teams with $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ to do as they please. I would not call anyone other than RB a top team now. This will be 6 years since Ferrari won a title, but they have the most experienced crew in F1 by a mile and tons of top names

Not a lot. If Wolff keeps his Williams share she'll stay with them. Merc won't give her any Friday running when they have Rosberg and Hamilton. Williams more likely to move Bottas aside once in a while.

Thats it though will he be keeping his shares? Conflict of interests and all that . From what I remember her Friday seat was deal done something like Bottas last year.

If he doesn't then she won't get any seat time on Friday's at Merc. Neither Rosberg nor Hamilton will give up Friday time for her. No way.

I didn't expect she would. Just wondering about her Williams deal.

As for Lewis and Rosberg. Remember they will have to do what they are told unless they have it in the contract ;)

I suppose if attends GPs he has to be in one garage or the other, wearing blue or wearing silver.
He can't do both, so bearing in mind that Haug was always in the Merc garage (and in McLaren's before 2010), if Wolff is to take on Norbert's role at Merc then he has to leave his job at Williams even if he does keep his shareholding.

I wonder who will replace him at Williams. He was pretty much calling the shots at the races that Frank didn't attend, and I highly doubt Frank will go back to going to every race.

I must admit, I always thought he'd go on to be Franks successor, but now they have to start all over again I guess. Lets just hope it doesnt screw them up. We wont really know until next year now though.

Surely they have so many top management types at Merc now, someone can be spared to go the other way. Williams need somebody.

Could Williams soon be under the Merc umbrella like Toro Rosso and RBR? Wolff (who apparently has a stake in Williams) agrees to go to Merc and run the team in exchange for engine and technology deal. Maybe Petronas is not going to renew a contract and PDVSA steps to Merc in exchange for Pastor getting a drive alongside Lewis? $$ talks ya know?

Rumour is Toto Wolff is bringing Paddy Lowe with him to Mercedes. According to Bild Toto Wolff managed to get Paddy Lowe to come to Williams but because of Toto going to Mercedes, he has brought him along.

Not really sure if this is even anywhere near true but Bild were the first ones to break the Toto Wolff and Timo Glock stories.
